Opera 3 for computers
Opera 3 made the small Norwegian browser known around the world. Opera 3.00 came out in December 1997, and Opera 3.50, in November 1998, introduced the Elektra rendering engine, with early support for CSS 1, the style sheet language proposed by Håkon Wium Lie, who joined Opera as CTO the following year.
What was new
- CSS 1 and user style sheets (3.50)
- TLS, file upload, a download manager and an offline mode (3.50)
- Java through an optional plug-in package (3.50)
- Opera 3.60 in May 1999, and a first beta for BeOS, called Opera 3.65 by Opera, in July 1999
