Catalog update!

September 20, 2011 · by Torgeir Lorange Østby

It has been some time, but a new version is finally out! The highlights:

  • Optimizations! You might have noticed already that the site is much more responsive
  • Translations! You can find a drop-down for changing the page language at the bottom of the pages (more languages are in the works)
  • The links to the developer sections and for logging out, just below the main header, should be more obvious now
  • Developers can now delete their extensions from the catalog
  • A lot of smaller fixes
Regarding the "Show items in" drop-down, a fix for the duplicate languages should be a few weeks away from release. This will also include improved localized sorting of various lists throughout the site.

Enjoy!

A huge inconvenience for me now is that from my extensoins page I can't get to an extension's public page.
There are two links to edit an extension info and even a link to the category the extension belongs to, but no link to the extension itself.

    Fix it please.

I'm getting "502 Bad Gateway" sometimes on https://addons.opera.com/en/addons/extensions/

Is there any news my previous ideas?

@SpShut: It requires two clicks. Click the name of the extension in the list. Then, at the top of the next page, there are links to the public pages. We are making some changes which might affect these links, but no promises.

@metude: We know the reporting system is a bit simplistic. Sadly, time is not on our side at the moment to improve it.

Thank you for answer. I hope we can see it soon.

Maybe for developers there should be a status site which Opera versions are actually official supported by the extension catalog.
I've heard that only 11.5 and 12 are now official supported. That new and updated extensions would only be approved for 11.5 and 12.
There could be saved a lot of time and afford if developers would know that before submitting an extension.

Hint: If your extension ONLY works in an older version of Opera 11, something important is broken. It would help everyone if you discovered whether the problem is your extension or Opera's engine.

To my knowledge Opera's approval is only for "current" and "next" builds, they do not wish to host files that require an arcane snapshot or one-off developer preview. You could probably zip it up and put such a file on your blog with the appropriate warnings and basic documentation.

I think the language select is not good idea, i mean when my computer language is english or my country is england i should see english language by default, it's bother me every time i go to extensions page select my language
  • Cutting SpoonFriday, September 23, 2011 6:11:44 PM

Yeah. It should be english. Unless you've told the Opera browser to prefer something else. It's great to have different installations of Opera for working in different languages, but I can't imagine why else you would need to keep manually selecting English when you visit the addons portal.

Interesting. PM if you have any questions, the program has so many features that it may be difficult to prioritize what needs mentioning.

:bug: All the comments in the extension page is showing the version as the latest one even when the comment was added on earlier version of extension

Yes. Quite annoying since when a person says something is not working and the author fixed it in a new version, then the author doesn't know of actual version. Also it would be better if Opera extensions website asked Opera browser for the version of the extension installed.

Extensions are supposed to be auto-updated, so opera is taking the version automatically from the latest version released.
Earlier it used to show correct version numbers which is broken now and all the comments are showing the latest version numbers

We know about the issue with the version numbers in the reviews. Thanks!

What happened to all the extensions?!? There's like 18 now.

    Few Suggestions:

1] all the addons should be in one combined app store (including extensions widgets, unite, skins, themes, wallpapers, etc)

2] addons.opera.com should point to this app store, currently it's going to extensions and other addons are being ignored

3] hide the counts from extensions left side categories. it's neither present for widgets, nor for unite, skins, themes, wallpapers, chrome web store, firefox addons page. any new person looking at counts directly compares with other appstores which is not good
