Recommended extensions

February 16, 2011 · by Arnstein Teigene

We recently introduced a section called Recommended which now acts as the default landing page for extensions. This makes the home page of the catalog more dynamic and it allow us to showcase more of the brilliant extensions we keep receiving.

To give everyone a fair shot at becoming recommended I thought I'd share some of the things we are looking for when deciding whether to showcase an extension or not:

  • The extension must be really useful for it's intended audience
  • It shouldn't be buggy
  • A clean icon
  • Clear screenshots showing how the extension will appear to the user and how to use it
  • A concise description covering a) what the extension does and b) how to use it
  • High rating

Here's a nice example of an extension we recommended.

If the extension is recommended and there is an update submitted, is the update automatically recommended too?

Are there any blogs or plans for blogs concerning the extension api itself and core changes affecting that? I was hoping this blog would be that, but the focus seems to be on talking about completed extensions.

I want to hear about the next steps for extensions and the api.
