300 million Opera users and counting
Today we reached 300 million monthly Opera users across all our browser products on phones, tablets, TVs and computers. That is a lot of people using Opera on a monthly basis, and we're excited to bring the news that you will be seeing new and cool updates from Opera this year. The first look at what we are bringing to the smartphone game will be shown at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, with a preview of our upcoming browser for Android.
We would like to thank all of you for supporting and using Opera over the years, and we're excited to show you very soon what we've been working on.

A webkit version for iOS, understandable by the limitations set by Apple, but for the rest, be your own browser.
PS Most webkit browsers seem to be identified as Safari/Chrome, and just end up bolstering Apples/Googles percentage! For example:

This is surely GREAT news for Opera fans. The best of both worlds, Opera as we currently know it, but not bogged down by the limited resources of a small Norwegian company where half the developers are duplicating code. More developers on the mobile and desktop versions will mean more cool stuff.
I just hope it's not too long before we get some Opera Desktop team toys to play with... Right now it's time to silence the critics by showing a desktop build of Opera powered by Webkit to give users something to salivate over (even if it is pre-alpha), along with an accelerated development schedule (daily builds?), and a more open bug tracker.
A much brighter future for Opera. Here's to the next 300m users. With Opera's cool browser, and more resources due to a Webkit backend, I'm can only see good coming from this.

I can't imagine the speed/compatibility boost it will give to Opera on Mac, and Windows will finally receive a stellar-performance browser which doesn't compromise its users data to Google
Awesome!

And not just the browser, I use your mail too! So, again, congratulations Opera Software team, can't wait to see what comes next.
Proudly posting this from Opera Mobile for Android.
EDIT: I'm baffled at the news of the team ditching Presto for WebKit, essentially part of the essence is disappearing from a great browser, from major browsers only one standing still and proud now after this....
I share with you this: http://christianheilmann.com/2013/02/13/i-will-miss-the-douglas-crockford-of-browsers/
Wish you the best guys!

This might be the end of Opera being one of the 5 browsers.
It's celebrating 300 Mil and saying goodbye to a lot of them at the same time.
RIP Opera
(Edit: I have been a loyal Opera user since before it was banner less, I think it's sad to see it go.)

I hate 1. right click function not smooth
2. extension icons not drag and place
3. save as function not so good
4. while photo loaded in web page then right click to download again download fully
5. right click new tab auto move to new tab
6. not supporting TAMIL FONT in INDIA as Microsoft, Google chrome are very much COMPARABLE
AND I VERY MUCH WORRY ABOUT YESTERDAY PRESS RELEASES
only 12 MB download support 31 type low memory usage but in chrome more than 30 MB support 19 type more than 175 mb memory usage
OK anyway go with web kit and expect best result with opera turbo

I have explored other browsers from time to time (checking out Yandex right now) but inevitably drift back to the big O.
These days, on occasions that Opera plays up with such things as form filling tasks or storing to Evernote I use Chrome.
In recent years I have encountered a most interesting phenomenon.
In recent I years have been promoting two books which I have written, "Unusual Perspectives: An Escape From Tunnel Vision" and "The Goldilocks Effect: What Has Serendipity Ever Done For Us?", both free e-book downloads.
What I find very remarkable is that my site statistics indicate that the downloads by Opera users is out of all proportion to those of other browsers.
Downloads through Opera representing between 65% and 95% of downloads while The usage of the browser is still only a few percent of the market.
Now, I can understand that the real "dumb-arse" computer user will not be likely to move away from the Internet Explorer (or Safari) with which the device is usually supplied.
But there is surely a very high proportion of users of those default browsers who do not fit into that lowest intellect category.
So I am looking for somebody who can offer some explanation for why, in the Opera community, there would be an extraordinarily high proportion of folk who have an interest in the broad evolutionary model which is the main context of these books.
Maybe somebody out there may have some suggestions and/or can point me towards others that might be able help unravel this mystery.
Pete
