I never do that, I always have an executable on windows and an rpm on Fedora to install it.

  • KarenWednesday, November 16, 2011 9:27:51 PM

I wouldn't even open IE to download Opera. I basically pretend it doesn't exist.

Luckily I live in a computerenvironment where IE doesn't exist. :-) And Opera is available through the Linux Mint repo, so I don't even have to open Firefox. Life is good on the light side.

Nice aim, but if we don't hurry the whole window will be filled up with toolbars. http://i.imgur.com/2s1mM.jpg

this achievement was unlocked on this pc when I got it in 2009. before then I don't really remember but it was probably downloaded with "Phoenix" or IE6

    too much haters here -.-

ofcourse Opera is my favourite browser and i just love it...

but IE9 also is a good browser... not that much features and not that nice plugins... but it starts faster and uses less RAM then opera and with GPU rendering at least on low hardware it is faster than opera...

and often it has better compatibility to websites...

    examples:

    - google+ no header bar and no notifications
    - Facebook no new profile view (opera lags if i activate it)
    - skydrive and hotmail web access not fully supportet
    - ...

  • OğuzThursday, November 17, 2011 1:55:00 AM

I am still waiting opera.com/msi, opera.com/rpm, opera.com/deb or opera.com/tar.gz short URL to download latest stable Opera release with wget/curl
  • Jeffrey LimThursday, November 17, 2011 4:40:47 AM

Well essentially I use GNU/Linux (mostly Debian, ubuntu and Fedora), in debian and ubuntu I add the Opera.deb repository to my sources.list. :penguin:

But when I have to do a fresh install on windows y use Opera@USB. So basically I use IE only for test my web developments (what is a really traumatic experience that only can be compared with a Jigsaw game in Saw movies. :scared: )

  • ianThursday, November 17, 2011 8:44:17 AM

yep ,ie is my download manager
  • RobertThursday, November 17, 2011 10:08:01 AM

Funnily enough first thing I did when re-installed my computer was to download Opera using IE
  • Pineas2Thursday, November 17, 2011 1:19:40 PM

Well, isn't that what we all do when we got a new pc? Starting IE for downloading Opera, installing Opera and starting to download everything else we need with more speed and convenience than IE would ever offer us?
  • AlokThursday, November 17, 2011 3:27:37 PM

Isn't it funny that when we get a new PC with Win we use IE to dwld the 1st browser that comes to our mind and then we ditch it...
Guess thats what most do...(except newbies)

Poor Opera's download page developers, they need to make it work on IE6 ^^
  • DavidThursday, November 17, 2011 11:14:05 PM

Effectively, I've installed iE for compatibility on websites and the Garmin Communicator plugin, use it to download Opera and where possible disregard him as s**t.

Aww...IE9 may not be the greatest, but it's still rather superior to Google Crap and Safari.
  • André GarciaFriday, November 18, 2011 7:51:03 AM

The fact is that each browser has it's qualities and flaws. Opera is a very slick and fast browser as well as IE9 and Chrome (of course there some differences in speed, but they matter only for the developers), Firefox has great add-ons, but becomes awfully slow if you use many of them, and there are many more to tell.
Yet, I guess Opera is still my favorite browser just out of subjectivity.

I'm guessing I'm just too damned smart to understand the banality of this post.
Maybe someone can explain the point of it?
In what way is this "news"?

How does it make any difference what browser you download Opera with?
:ninja: I could download Opera with Voyager, Ibrowse or Aweb on my Amiga if I want, but so what?
  • Cutting SpoonSunday, November 20, 2011 5:48:28 AM

OpenDNS is blocking http://files.myopera.com, I sent a PM with more info to DotEd.
  • Naomi IshimuraSunday, November 20, 2011 7:01:55 PM

Hahaahaa! Yeah, opera is very very nice! browser
  • Doc Flay™Sunday, November 20, 2011 7:38:00 PM

@everyone who says "I use firefox to download...."
How did you get Firefox on your PC?

I'm guessing almost all of you used IE first to download Firefox, then Firefox to download Opera (what a pointless exercise).

:sherlock: I keep the latest Opera on my memory sticks (installer and installed) that way I can download Opera with Opera, and never have to run either Firefox or IE.
  • María Belén LópezTuesday, November 22, 2011 11:27:43 PM

lol I hate IE but I did use Firefox to download Opera, and IE to download Firefox a few years ago xD
  • QuHnoWednesday, November 23, 2011 1:41:45 PM

I downloaded my first Opera with Netscape, I don't know if it was with Netscape 3 or 4, which came from a CD in a computer magazine. (Firefox didn't exist at that time, not even in the wet dreams of the Mozilla developers) .
I never used IE to download Opera, not then and I will not change that now for sure. :pirate:
