Can you implement 3-7 popular wishes in each version?

April 28, 2009 · by Jon S. von Tetzchner

We have suggested number of wishes in wish-list thread. Can you implement 3-7 popular wishes in each version of Opera?

Tamil, I am sure we implement a lot more than that. Some of the wishes are small. Some of the wishes are big. I have always stressed the importance internally at Opera with working with the Community. IMHO, we owe you to do what you request. Thus we try to do that. It can be difficult at times, because we are trying to balance a usable product with a lot of features and requests. However, I do believe that we should strive to adapt to every user. You may not get your Opera out of the box, but a few tweaks here and there, it will be your Opera.

A new clearer changelog system has just been introduced in the desktopteam blog. It's excellent, but in light of this post, it might be nice if this changelog were extended slightly to say something like:

"this new feature was originally discussed by users in this thread"

New features can't necessarily be traced back to a single forum thread. There's more to adding new features than simply picking and choosing from the forums.

True. It's not that simple. Just throwing the idea out there.

This has always been truer with Opera than any other browser I have tried. Configurability - without additional downloads.* This is the most important aspect here. With other browsers, you'll have to like what you get. With Opera, you'll get what you like, if you have enough patience to try a few different toolbars and menus.

    * well there's the voice and the spellcheck currently, let's admit

Well, I guess that's just a problem with the disconnect between forum users and developers. Sure, we usually wish for more than can be a reasonable target in any version, but "popular" wishes should get more priority. Well, in theory. I'm guessing 3rd-parties are higher priority, which is understandable. Just don't expect us not to bitch and moan :p:

Well.... yes. I mean unless they're going to spy on the other users and infer what they think they want, how else to you propose they gauge user opinion? It's not so much Opera ignoring them, rather them ignoring Opera's feedback channels.

 great wishes, how about a entry fref (frequently requested estaBLISHed features) popular might be not be what i like. Things that mini3 has would be nice: choose your bookmarks out of (popular) links. May be it wasnot popular but useful.

Is it? Version doesn't seem to be specified.
