Hail to the king, baby!

April 9, 2011 (approximate) · by Espen André Øverdahl

Mysterion (a.k.a "haavard") came across something hilarious today. Some of our mobile browser competitors name drops Opera Mini to gain more users. Yes! This is a stamp of approval. We love it:

Bring it.

I have tried UC and Bolt. UC isn't bad, but this guy used (or uses) China Proxy. There is something in the settings that solve the following problem, so UC is okay (mainly if you want china proxy), but the Bolt thing isn't worked properly for me.
  • Elige Opera5. April 2011, 12:35

Mmm if now they are all better than Opera. But the truth is nobody surpasses even the Skyfire with flash bracket still has many flaws as the same Flash Player of talk these days on the blog. That's why I Choose Opera... :flirt:
  • Yeni Setiawan5. April 2011, 12:39

I have tried those browsers some months ago. They still can't beat Opera Mini for small screen rendering.

What I want is desktop view in my mobile browser, not the mobile view.
  • heatro5. April 2011, 12:40

so it means.,.. that the quote "Better that OVI" is not really quoted from the OVI official site,, it is just putted by someone.. well... whether it is real or not... i still will go to opera...

    BROWSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ever EVER ever EVER
    ever EVER ever EVER

UC browser is very slow than Opera mini but have night mode thats good idea for take care eyes
Bolt is good browser with desktop veiw but some times hangup and don't have digital keyboard and doesn't support middle eastian font just english there is no browser like operamini i have tuch cellphone and i just use operamini for sending e-mail because operamini5 ,5beta ,5beta2, 5.1 and 6 have keyboard and manage search engine and copy paste with full screen edit
even operamini 4.3 that don't have keyboard (and i hope have keyboard in future) is much better of other browser in all
    1.operamini 6
    2.operamini 4.3
    3.operamini 3.2
    4.bolt browser 2.5

  • akai19875. April 2011, 14:03

They were using Opera Mini to advertise their browser, claiming that their browser is better than Opera Mini.

You don't think the application's author controls the description at GetJar? That's (almost) even funnier!
  • abdur925. April 2011, 16:00

UC is okay, not better than Mini. (It is a fail copy of mini)
    The rest are horrible.
Interested to see Opera's reaction
  • Jorjy5. April 2011, 16:24

I use UC when i need to download something biggger. I think UC has the better download manager. But overall i always prefer Opera Mini.
And Bolt? Worst browser ever! Sometimes they render web pages like i'm in stone age! Anyway you guyz made my day. Joke of the day! :p:
  • Vlad Starkovsky5. April 2011, 16:27

    LOL...
  • USBik5. April 2011, 17:25

 I didn't believe it but right now I'm watching it online at GetJar. Mazin'! Oh and I just want to say Bolt Lite is a pile of junk - it doesn't work on my phone at all
  • Cutting Spoon5. April 2011, 19:17

I should look around, some guy claimed he used Mini to download an ISO over his cellular connection awhile back.
  • SunSeth5. April 2011, 19:59

As long as Opera drop Win Mobile it could be sad truth in near future

The only sad truth would be for Windows Mobile users since it hardly has any users, and is quickly becoming extinct

Opera Mini is still growing
  • ross tomkins5. April 2011, 20:18

Dont get me wrong OPERA mini and mobile are brilliant and i use them every day on my Nokia N8 BUT there is an ongoing problem which OPERA hasn't mastered that BOLT has.

Im a uk user and i dabble abit in online share dealing. my online trading account is through natwest. if i try to log in using OPERA mini or mobile. the site doesn't recognise the browser and wont allow me to log on ? The BOLT browser version 2.31 is so far the ONLY browser on symbian 3 to allow me to login to the account. why are mobile browsers struggling all the time with this ?

@Jani and Alexi, "hail to the king baby" was from the movie Army of Darkness. The Duke was quoting Ash.

It sounds like you are blaming Opera for being blocked. That's a rather odd thing to do. If the site is blocking Opera, it's not that Opera can't handle the site. It's the site that should be blamed for not allowing Opera users access.

That Bolt is too insignificant to be blocked like that is a different issue, and not very relevant.

Well said Yeni. Its the "desktop experience on mobile" that's important.

  • Pieter6. April 2011, 14:20

Damn, those aliens are going to pay for mocking my browser.

It would be funny if opera puts better then <all the above browsers> on their next review ^^
  • Cutting Spoon6. April 2011, 15:42

Ross, actually I wonder if Bolt has a compatible UserAgent? Maybe it identifies as Firefox or Webkit, or Android. I don't know much about the program. It would be good to test with Opera Desktop version, if the site uses browser sniffing to block access, Opera staff may be able to patch the site for all mobile users.

Persistence will fix this issue forever.
