The new "Thought-Police Edition" of Google Search is very much self-censoring, and many legitmate queries don't seem to be turning results. This is especially odd as the legitimate sites were visible even with extreme Safe Search setting, and are still visible if you use the normal search box rather than Instant.
Plus, this does not affect my addressbar searches, so it is entirely useless.
Look around, sites like The Register and Betanews are not very positive on how Instant seems to work.
All together now: "Instant not working?! NO! Is FEATURE!!"

Personally I don't like the google instant thing. I'd rather have it like it was before, so it not working right in Opera is a plus for me.

You can turn it off, if you don't like it. What about new image search look? It's way better than the old one.
But I don't understand why there is no Opera support by default ... Why I have to identify as Firefox?
And the search field is broken if I identify as FireFox:
Eh, the new image search is a bloody disaster. I'd rather use the old search with 50+ results per page.

Google earlier wrote this on their page, but is now removed. Luck to the buffer-thing on Google, that saves old sites.

people DONT identify as firefox. It means then: "no one uses Opera so why support it?"

God damn... Shouldn't someone look into this? Isn't this fraudulent competition? Gmail - at it's beginning - wouldn't work, we had to trick it to think were're using Firefox. Picasa still says our browser is not compatible, although everything works fine. Wave loads correctly and then suddenly disappears, leaving a blank page. We have to identify as Firefox to make the new Google Graphics search work, now we have to trick Google Instant to make it work... This is starting to piss me off. Problem is - there's no alternative. :/

Are using Opera 11 snapshots? the current one as of this comment is a know bug
I just don't understand why Google doesn't want to support Opera?
Because Google has lots of hope from chrome & it updates daily{weekly}. Anyway chrome sucks like hell. It installs at user level, No other application does that trick...

Awesome, thanks
I didn't even know about the "Identify as..." feature.
redmondbMonday, December 13, 2010 1:55:32 AM
For this feature, the longer Google "ignores" Opera the happier I'll be. I accidentally discovered it today and found it horrible... (1) Distracting. (2) Slower. (3) Wasteful of bandwidth (sadly, most of my browsing is done with a monthly download limit). (4) Drops the search bar at the bottom of the screen.

I hate google for this. They are just doing this to opera because they fear that the browser will be more used than chrome. Google is not playing a clean game. Opera FTW!

Note that identifying as Firefox is not a flawless solution--it breaks the back button and has some rendering glitches.
I wonder if it's time for Opera to include a "Identify as Chrome" feature. Especially now Google is delivering broken code to Opera on maps.google.com.
I've found that Opera and Chrome are much more alike than Opera and Firefox, when it comes to CSS and Javascript.

Fascinating observation, that.
