The old design was more "technological", and that some informal.
  • D1sasterp1eceThursday, March 17, 2011 3:39:41 PM

The new design looks good, but it's choppy when scrolling (this is with 11.10 Beta 1 (2048)), which (at least for me) isn't worth the sacrifice.
  • JoelThursday, March 17, 2011 3:43:34 PM

  • AntonThursday, March 17, 2011 4:05:39 PM

YEAH! I made it into that photo of users, and either that is Tamil (red monkey) OR its those old server monkeys - which I hope it is, i miss those guys!

Yikes the background flashes white when I scroll (and scrolling is really choppy) in the 11.10 beta.

You probably have smooth scrolling enabled? Type in "opera:about" in the address field. Search for scrolling and disable smooth scrolling. It should do the trick. Opera 11.10 is in beta quality now and performance/layout issues are likely to happen.

    I like it ....

It's the same with 11.01 (1190) even with smooth scrolling disabled. Furthermore, I haven't had any problems with other sites under 11.10 Beta. This design is somehow too heavy.

I'll see what we can do to make it lighter.

new design is ok but look designer...his face is so sad?!
  • icareFriday, March 18, 2011 8:20:20 PM

The new design is good but why I can't find any direct link to the extensions ?
I swear I have to go through google to find http://addons.opera.com/

    Not very practical.
  • cdggcdggFriday, March 18, 2011 8:26:00 PM

@icare: You can go to the Menu > Extensions > Get Extensions
  • DillonSaturday, March 19, 2011 7:29:20 AM

Not seeing any issue with scrolling the page with the post-beta build (2053) right now.

    It's still choppy for me.

WOW!!! Great Design!!! I didn't really like the monkey in the middle though
  • SuntanaMonday, March 21, 2011 1:30:01 AM

I have no idea who that person in the photo is.
    Is that Espen? Dustin?
Other than that ... I like the concept, the Design. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/ThumbsUp.gif -
Kudos to the Choose Opera Blog Powers That Be for for taking that chance and experimenting with venturing into OUT THERE Quirky & Cool ... Out of the Norm territory.

    Great Job, Dustin! http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Happy.gif -

While I'm NOT seeing the Choose Opera Blog here doing that, I know exactly to what you are referring. I've seen that issue before. I've seen that glitch only throughout the Opera 11.xx series. I even filed a Bug Report back in December of last year. The glitch tends to almost be fixed by the end of each Opera 11.xx version, but then reappears with each new version.

The funny thing is that this page doesn't flicker when viewed with Opera Mobile for Windows 7 (it runs fine on XP, actually) and still, with Opera 11, it shows white stripes in the upper or the lower edge of the page (depending on the direction I scroll). So what's the difference, doesn't Opera use the same rendering engine on all platforms (or at least for these two)?
  • ChirpieWednesday, March 23, 2011 10:35:56 AM

Of course Opera uses the same engine. The obvious culprit here would be your graphics card or display driver.

Yeah, I know, but this is on the very same computer.
  • ChirpieWednesday, March 23, 2011 3:08:16 PM

    Driver, then.

You assume that I may have two different graphics drivers on the same PC and on the same OS? The only one that I have is not faulty. The GPU is old, but it's okay - I occasionally play games (such that it can handle) and it's all right.
  • ChirpieThursday, March 24, 2011 9:16:07 AM

Windows XP drivers are not compatible with Windows 7, and vice versa. So yes, the drivers are different.

So how would a piece of software installed on XP use a Windows 7 driver?
  • ChirpieThursday, March 24, 2011 2:20:54 PM

How are images and shapes drawn on the screen? It needs to use the display driver.
  • D1sasterp1eceThursday, March 24, 2011 3:09:34 PM

Yeah, exactly. Whatever needs to draw images and shapes on the screen uses the display driver. The same display driver. Again, I'm talking about this, this and this installed on the same system - ironically, the version made for different OS and different type of device performs best, at least on this page - its background does not flicker.
  • ChirpieThursday, March 24, 2011 4:06:58 PM

No, Windows XP and Windows 7 use different display drivers. A driver for Windows XP does not work in Windows 7.
  • D1sasterp1eceThursday, March 24, 2011 4:42:41 PM

You don't seem to understand me - I am using XP, why do I need Windows 7 drivers?
