New Opera version available: Updated design, Speed Dial extensions and a lot more!
Fresh from the servers: A brand new Opera version can now be fetched from www.opera.com/download. This release features:
- Opera Link Password Synchronization: Back up and get your passwords through Opera Link.
- Speed Dial extensions: Get live content directly in your Speed Dial.
- A new faster design: Opera now feels faster to use - and it looks better than ever before.
We've also thrown up a download counter on Opera.com to see how we compare versus some really random fast facts. Here's what've beaten so far:
- Most people on stilts
- Largest display of Wing Chun
- Tom Selleck's mustache fanclub is the coolest and best fanclub in the world
- 113,696 reasons why Tamil is our hero
- 461,049 people who care about the Web
- I've been preparing for this moment my entire life
- The Force is Strong With This One
- Not Everybody Likes Fridays
- Are You Ready For The Claw
- A lot of frustrated girlfriends (and boyfriends?)
- That's one hell of a toilet break
Watch Opera Link featuring password synchronization in action:
| The Weather is a fantastic Speed Dial extension that displays the weather for any location. With close to 100,000 downloads, this extension is already a favorite for many of you. | ||
| You know those cute cat pictures you see everywhere on the Internet? Well, with the Photo Tagger Speed Dial extension, all images are now saved to a gallery easily accessible. | ||
| Forum junkie? Then the Forum Updates extension is probably your new Speed Dial friend. It can even check your My Opera private messages and friend requests! |
Opera is (as always) free and available for all platforms from www.opera.com/download. Please let us know what you think about it in the comments. Don't forget to share it with your friends!

Edit: I just noticed that even something as simple as the down button to click on in the address bar is no longer there.

And I believe there is an issue with that zooming, because after changing the zoom level, I have to close and reopen the speed dial page to see the changes. It works fine in the beta version.

You need to copy and paste opera:config#UserPrefs|ShowDropdownButtonInAddressfield into your address bar to change the setting.
Now I have done that, how do I get my home page shortcut button back please! How annoying!
YahnTuesday, June 28, 2011 8:18:25 PM
Mine is using a little under 2 GB, after about an hour.
ErikTuesday, June 28, 2011 8:35:33 PM
Like:
- new design, slimmer bars (...remember password questions, etc)
- nice speed dial extensions and idea
- update didnt cleared some customized options in right click menu
Puzzled why ?!:
- no option to make the O button red
- why no manual zoom slider inside the drop out zoom menu, maybe I should use CTRL+scroll wheel
comment: maybe a little more ram use here but since the browser is maybe the next OS... just wish there were a 'low resources' mode or something for those times many programs are open but its hard to choose which one to close, lol
thanks Opera, your browser is really nice

Perhaps a choice in installation would be nice.

You can already choose, and you can do so without making the installer more complicated. You can choose what to enable, and if you don't enable it, it won't hog memory and it won't slow anything down.
It's pointless of you to request the removal of things that don't even affect you.

I started using Opera years ago after a bug plagued fire fox update that would randomly dump my bookmarks.I surf mainly and have 100+ bookmarks.Making my bookmarks less accessible is a good way to drive me to another browser.
For years I have recommended Opera to people looking for an alternative browser. This so-called upgrade will put an end to that I think.
