Opera 11.10
Opera 11.10 launched today with the new and improved Opera Turbo as well as the improved Speed Dial. Of the two it's hard to pick a favorite. The new Speed Dial has a unique flow to it and Turbo isn't only faster, it looks better as well!
We leave picking a favorite to you. While you think about it, grab the muffin speed dial background from the video. As always Opera is free and available from www.opera.com/download/.

Can I choose a third option? I'm excited about the beginnings of CSS3 Gradient support.

http://my.opera.com/BS-Harou/blog/weather-in-speeddial
Basically add a new speed dial and enter this URL as the address:
http://speeddial.operacesky.net/weather.php?lang=en&area=Oslo&top=100&redirect=no°=f
Just change Oslo to your city in the URL. Delete °=f to get Celsius. If you want it to redirect to a weather site, simply paste the URL after "redirect=" For example:
redirect=http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/01488.html
Thanks to BS-Harou for this!

Admitedly, i didn't like the initial view of Opera 11.10 had to play around a bit, and i can see its bothered some folks - who like it exactly how it was. While playing with the columns and arrangements, found the remove " + " button on the speed dial - hidden in such in obvious place lol.
So to all the dismayers, stop being stubborn and go and play!

Who knows what new users are thinking about Opera? What if they have been introduced to Opera before the changes, what would they prefer...? I have these questions.
Cutting SpoonThursday, April 14, 2011 11:01:44 PM
The recently added subtle hints improve exposure of Opera's extra features, and the simple design of the speed dial is easier for new users to grasp. Some existing users need to apply new settings, but there is a way to make it behave almost exactly the same as before.

Half of mine appear as thumbnails and half as just the upper left corner of the page. I tried to manually reload and auto-reload the buttons, but they do not seem to react consistently.
I think this is what KKM and Malcorps meant by the old speed dial. (Configure is not the fix)
Cutting SpoonFriday, April 15, 2011 4:26:17 AM
My problem with the old thumbnails, was that many sites in my dial had a very similar layout and I couldn't tell them apart. So I did actually use the icon hack for a few such domains.
With the new dial, the thumbnail hack needs to be done differently but it is still possible. Yet for me, the new previews are certainly useful. I do not think I will be manually altering any of the thumbnails or tinkering with the advanced settings, but the link above should help the rest of you.
gdgnaFriday, April 15, 2011 6:43:28 AM
the old version showed the whole site, which was just fine for me - I used only 12 tiles so it was totally ok..
the new speed dial somestimes just shows _a part_ of the site (e.g. a logo), sometimes it shows a thumbnail of the page and sometimes it only shows the logo on a white background.. nothing else..
so it can't decide, what it wants (or it just looks for something called "logo" and gives in if it doesn't find anything)
would it be possible to enable the "old" speed dial version? i.e. showing _only_ thumbnail of the page?
never hab any problems with it..
until opera works out a "fast" way to do it:

It is quite straightforward to easily change the number, size etc of dials, and also to change their appearance.

The new defaults are very pleasant. To the majority. The minority will have to change things, as they always did. Nothing new there.
