Opera 11 alpha benchmarking results

October 22, 2010 · by Espen André Øverdahl

We ran a Peacekeeper benchmarking test using Opera 11 alpha, and the result is pretty nice. We used the following setup:

  • Windows 7 32-bit
  • Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33 GHz
  • 4 GB RAM

This is the result we got when compared to other browsers. Please note that variations will occur depending on setups and background processes.

Opera 11 Benchmark results

* Peacekeeper lists IE9 as IE7 for some reason. The test was done with IE9!

I just hope extensions don't make it all unstable and buggy like they do with firefox.
Opera #1...at least for the moment. I have faith on you guys

You should change main menu view because it's very boring.
  • Mathieu 'p01' HENRIFriday, October 22, 2010 11:31:45 AM

batsihor: mmh, being specific would help make the main menu less boring. I'm not even sure which menu you are talking about. Anyways, https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/ is the way to go to file a bug/request

Do you have some data about the impact of installed extensions on peacekeeper performance? After initially believing they wouldn't hit hard, I had to correct myself after some more tests. I would now say that installing 3 extensions (Opera Configurator, Fastest Tube and Video Fullscreen) leads to a loss of more than 10% peacekeeper score. Can anyone confirm?
  • NecromanFriday, October 22, 2010 12:08:31 PM

Opera 11 is also fastest in FF Kraken test, Webkit SunSpider test and has best results across browsers in Sputnik Javascript conformace test
Only in html5test.com it has pretty low score :worried:
  • janek2012Friday, October 22, 2010 12:45:32 PM

    @Z1-AV69, Confirmed:

    All extensions disabled: 10268 points
    3 extensions enabled: 8489 points
    (VideoFullscreen, Edit the Page, FastestTube)

    AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.6GHz
    Gigabyte GTX 470 @ 700/1400/3348 MHz
    2x2 GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
    Windows 7 x64

So, in my case it's almost 1800 points. It's ~18% decrease.
  • AmundFriday, October 22, 2010 12:50:39 PM

    Win7 32-bit?
Does anyone actually run that version
It seems most new PC's today sells with Win7 x64 installed.
  • AuxFriday, October 22, 2010 12:59:52 PM

That's not true for my system. Opera 11 lags behind latest Chrome 7.
  • AmaZingerFriday, October 22, 2010 2:01:40 PM

For what this tests? They show nothing. It's better to look at FPS in html5-applications.
  • SuntanaFriday, October 22, 2010 2:26:28 PM

There is something seriously wrong with that test.
Yep! The problem is that in this era of Opera 11 ...
You have the OLD style Opera logo up there.
  • Charles SchlossFriday, October 22, 2010 2:57:32 PM

What is the url for that peacekeeper test, of the one from the test Opera did?

It must be one of those extensions. With only "Fast Search" and "open-in-background-with-long-press", I see no performance loss at all. Makes me happy.
  • StelianFriday, October 22, 2010 5:16:44 PM

My result when the extensions are turned off - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit; Intel Core 2 CPU T7200 2.00 GHz; RAM 1.5GB
    (click picture)
    http://files.myopera.com/LZ2SDC/files/Opera%2011%20Peacekeeper.png -

When I turn all extensions (Opera Configorator, Fastest Tube, Translate, Mouse trail, Edit the Page, VideoFullscreen)
    the result is: 4780 points.

It would be nice to Manage Extension, have buttons or option "Disable All" and "Uninstall All"
  • Stephen TurrellFriday, October 22, 2010 6:53:06 PM

My results show Opera has a big lead I downloaded the latest versions of Chrome Firefox & Safari today & IE 9 is also the latest version.
    Opera 11.00 Alpha = 14664
    Chrome 8.0.560.0 Canary = 12497
    Safari WebKit r70091 = 7122
    Firefox 4.0b6 beta = 6783
    Firefox 4.0b8pre Minefield = 6163
    Internet Explorer 9.0.7930.16406 = 3952

Safari result was suspect it ran the test that precedes the bouncing balls as a blank page until approx the last 2 seconds of that test

You shouldn't share Peacekeeper URLs. Other people can overwrite your results if you do.

On the peacekeeper page that displays the results it lists the popular processors & fastest browsers.
Its showing a much older version for Opera than the other browsers Opera 10.10 and Opera 10.50 beta.

If you click on the Statistics link the new page says

    "Which is the fastest browser?

The tables and charts on these pages are compiled from thousands of Peacekeeper results from users all around the world. The figures are updated as new results come in. The table below shows how the five major browsers score in Peacekeeper. For each browser we show you the results from the current release and the latest beta build."

Opera is not going to attract many new users looking for a faster browser from that page

    @ EspenAO (desktopteam)

    Please add more info:
-> IE 9 is with permanent D2D hardware Acceleration!
    -> Graphics-card? Graphics RAM?
-> Is Hardware Acceleration activated in Firefox 4 ?
    -> Is Hardware Acceleration activated in Chrome 7 & 8 ?
    -> Opera 11 without Hardware-Acceleration till now?

    Thanks.

It only proves that Opera is fastest on that PC "Windows 7 32-bit Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33 GHz 4 GB RAM This is the result we got when compared to other browsers. Please note that variations will occur depending on setups and background processes."

No, it depends on system specs, and other factors. All of your comments are useless because they are so one-sided that they have to be ignored.

My Peacekeeper results: One tab only, doing nothing else:

    Opera 10.63 2641
    Opera 11.00 2492

So, Opera 11.00 is slower on my system.

Did you forget its an Alpha, and I have done the test on machines with different specs and I get different results so "it depends on system specs, and other factors"

WRONG Presuming that you actually ran the Peacekeeper benchmark on Opera 10.63 2641 & Opera 11.00 2492 there are many factors that can give you a different score. The results can & mostly do vary on the same PC every time you run the benchmark. You ASSume that because your PC shows Opera 11 to be faster than Opera 10.63 then it will be the same for everyone regardless of the different Operating Systems , Hardware Configurations & Software they use on their PC. You http://files.myopera.com/stve10/albums/5008562/Assume.JPG - too much.

That site is USELESS. It doesn't just test HTML5, doesn't test the whole spec, and the scores are completely retarded.
