Opera 11 beta gets some Wired love

November 28, 2010 (approximate) · by Espen André Øverdahl

Webmonkey is Wired's resource site for web site developers including how-to guides, code libraries, server technologies and authoring resources. We were stoked this morning when we woke up to great praise of the Opera 11 beta we released yesterday:

"[...] Opera 11 is shaping up to be a great release both for Opera fans and those who use other browsers, which, if history is any guide, will soon be mimicking Opera’s lead."

Great article and by the way: Tab stacking is the greatest feature I have seen in years for a browser! Well, besides Speed Dial, of course

"With hardware acceleration, add-ons support and the innovative interface of Tab Stacking leading the way,"....

don´t they know that HA isn´t integrated yet? But nevertheless, a very nice article!!!

Stunning, absolutely stunning. So when will the rest of the browsers snatch Opera's inventive advances? Opera I don't how I could surf the net without you.

Thanks Opera Team you are the browser Gods.

I quite like the idea, but there are a few niggles with stacking:

    - I'd like to be able to re-arrange the tabs to either end of a stack a bit easier than it is right now. At the moment when I try to do that, the default action is for the tab to get taken out of the stack, rather than sort of "stick" to the stack, if that makes sense.

    - I'd like it if when I click a link on a site that opens a new tab, it would automatically get added to the stack. More like the IE9 beta does.

    - Speaking of the IE9 beta, it'd be nice if different stacks would get different colour tabs like IE9 does. I always brag about how the tabs in Opera handle so much better and easier because all the visual cues leave no doubt as to where a tab will end up, and I think different coloured stacks will help in that respect.

    - When adding a tab to a stack, I'd prefer the stack to not collapse myself. I see it as that's the group I'm obviously busy with at that time, so one of these tabs is the most likely candidate for me to want to switch to next, making having to expand the group again first a bit of a hassle.

Anyway, I realise this is still only a beta, so stuff could still change/get better. So good job so far

Yes I saw that article. Very happy to see that many people know realise how useful and powerful Opera is.

Loving the beta! I wish there was an extension like ChromedBird, which lets you tweet your urls.

    Hi folks!

Right now I am using Chrome, but I will change it for Opera as soon as possible. (because I'm a user of LastPass and was not available before, this is the reason for not using Opera before) But I like Opera for sometime more than whatever other browser (because I tried it).

I would like (if possible) that Opera Link can sync more things like: passwords, extensions and browser settings.

Thanks! Opera, you will be my default browser ¡SOON!

Opera 11 beta is fantastic. Im so glad opera added extention support. Im still is shock there are so many extensions considering opera 11 hasnt been released yet.Tab Stacking is probably one of the most useful features that no one has ever thought of. Glad to see that the first browser backed by the cloud (Rockmelt is making the claim its the first browser backed by cloud which is complete B.S. considering opera link has been around for some time now) is finally starting to mature. Great Job Opera. Please fix the contact manager for opera 12.
