Opera 12.10 beta now available for testing

October 2, 2012 · by Espen André Øverdahl

Opera 12.10 beta is now available for testing. This latest version of Opera speeds up browsing for end-users, makes images more beautiful, and includes functionality that allows web developers to add user-friendly features to their pages and extensions.

Opera 12.10 supports new OS features, such as built-in sharing of content to social network on MacOS X Mountain Lion shown above. Click image for high-res version.

Mac and Windows support

Opera 12.10 for Mac supports a number of new Mac OS X Mountain Lion features such as Notification Center and built-in sharing of content to social networks, and even comes with Retina Display support. Windows users aren't left out; as part of our continuing work on Windows 8 integration, Opera 12.10 beta has inertia scrolling and pinch-to-zoom on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Opera 12.10 beta now supports International Color Consortium (ICC) profile v4, which will make photographs more vibrant and colorful, displaying them exactly as the photographer intended.

SPDY Gonzales

Opera has always been about speed, so the new release incorporates the new SPDY protocol, which makes web pages load faster on SPDY-enabled sites such as Twitter, Gmail, WordPress and (soon) Facebook.

HTML5, Extensions and Web Standards

Opera is the browser that began the HTML5 specification that is transforming the web, so it's only natural that we'd be adding more support for the latest standards. For more detailed information about HTML5, extensions and web standards in Opera 12.10 beta, we recommend you check out the Desktop Team blog or the Opera Developer Relations Team blog.

Download Opera 12.10 beta

To download Opera 12.10 beta, get Opera Next. If you're already using Opera Next, simply "Check for Updates" and install the new version.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Kamil Sevi and Burak Beyzadeoglu for their recent assistance in discovering security issues in Opera's web sites.

If you have discovered a security issue in one of Opera's web sites, please report it securely using our bug tracking system (please do not report such issues using blog comments).

  • revoiverTuesday, October 2, 2012 7:01:25 PM

Previous versions like Opera 10 are more stable.
Opera 12 is slow, consumes a lot of resources and memory.
task manager report more than 1Gb of virtual memory in Win 7 and 600Mb in win XP, with 6 tabs opened.
Facebook page is so slow with Opera 12, I've using Opera since 5.0 Version
I Love opera, but now is slow like IE or Firefox.
    Fix it.

No, the white logo is for the beta version, it's a way to differentiate the beta from the official release

None, there is no difference, Opera next it's the Beta of the next release. That's why it has the "next" name
