Opera in Amsterdam - demoing cool stuff
A crew of employees from Opera are at IBC, The International Broadcasting Convention, an annual trade show for everything TV. IBC is Europe's largest professional broadcast show and is held at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
IBC is not a consumer show. Something I experienced at the event this year. There's a lot of serious business going on down here and the big thing is (of course) 3D. ![]()
At the Opera stand we are showing off cool web applications and technology on TV's and set-top boxes running Opera as their framework or platform. The booth area is very busy, with new potential partners and customers dropping by every minute:
We were goofing around with the Opera Mobile demo when we all of a sudden came across this sweet article from Engadget:
Opera has a lot of partners in the TV/broadcasting industry. Many systems are based on Opera technology. Here's an interface built with Opera technology. And no, that's not an iPad on the devices table: ![]()
We apologize for the sound quality in this video clip (it was shot using my mobile phone). If you crank up the volume a bit, you should be able to hear what Mikael Albertsson, an Engineer from Opera Software, has to say about Opera Widgets running on TVs. Also, notice the insane Twitter Widget rage after 0:26 seconds. ![]()
And last, but not least, here's a demo of a set-top box running Opera with support for the video tag in HTML5. It was amazing to have a YouTube clip in 1080p running on a TV. The quality was flawless and the rendering was incredibly smooth:
The Opera stand is located in Hall 4. If you're in the area, stop by our booth for a chance to meet Opera people, get a drink and see our cool demos!

And I can't believe I beat Tamil as the first poster. I deserve some Opera swag for this accomplishment.
