Opera Mini is now on 3000 phones and counting

July 8, 2010 · by Espen André Øverdahl

Opera Mini

Good news, everybody! Opera Mini, the world's most popular mobile phone browser with over 61 million users worldwide, delivers now the best Internet experience on more than 3000 mobile phones.

Today's update is highly recommended for users of Nokia S40 feature phones with limited memory, such as the popular Nokia 5130 XpressMusic, Nokia 6300 and Nokia 2700 handsets. This upgrade will also benefit phones with a small screen size (less than 200 pixels), such as the Sony Ericsson K550i and Sony Ericsson W810i phones.

In addition, Opera Mini 5.1 will improve the browsing experience for those who have encountered out-of-memory issues or the need to reload open web pages while surfing with Opera Mini 5.

To help celebrate, you can download wallpapers here (or here: 01, 02, 03, 04)

Please note that this update is not critical for Opera Mini users on smartphones or high end devices.

I guess you're right, no visible change on my Nokia N79 other than the *0 shortcut being added.

lol... I don't really mean to nitpick, but shouldn't it be 3000 models of phones or 3000 types of phones, it kind of makes it sound like it's only being used on 3000 phones, even though it's stated that "over 61 million users".

Can i use opera mini 5.1 for Nokia 3110c?
  • Vladimir GeorgievThursday, July 8, 2010 9:01:55 AM

I had those problems with SE K750i, so I want to try Mini 5.1 too.
Unfortunately, on mini.opera.com I am always given the Vodafone-optimized Mini 5.0 version (named "Internet"), with no any option to choose another myself.

I tried loading mini.opera.com/?act=opts but the result is the same.
Is there an URL I can visit so that I could select 5.1?

    Great!!!
  • praetor87Monday, July 12, 2010 3:29:38 PM

The new design (5 and later versions) are more feature less than the classic versions. Nice and the tabs are good features for a guy who always running and just collect infos and read later (like me), however i always needed the REAL Opera Mini feeling. This is what i can't find in the 5 next to many redundant features as fast scrolling on non-touch phones (why?)... Another source of bugs as i found. I hope the next versions will change back many things that made the Opera Mini better as in the near past.
