Opera rules Lifehacker test

March 23, 2011 · by Aleksander Aas

Opera 11.01 rises to the top in the latest Lifehacker Browser Speed test! 6 tests where preformed, and Opera won three. In the DOM and CSS tests there wasn't even a doubt. We are also glad to see that Opera 11.01 did really well both in the startup and memory consumption tests.

We promise even more awesomeness from Opera 11.10 final!

    The link doesnt properly work.
If you remove the #! from before 5784396, it should work.

Chrome has twice as fast js engine. So no enough fast.
  • Aid KaldzijaThursday, March 24, 2011 2:09:57 PM

at least opera is original, all those other are copying opera, starting from interface etc...

Not true. Opera is faster than Chrome at SunSpider.

You can't make your decision just because of one test -.-

And: On my Mac Opera starts incredibly slowly...

I agree, but you can't base your decision on the V8 benchmark either because it was optimized for Chrome.

I'm just pointing out that the claim that Chrome's JS engine is twice as fast as Opera's is demonstrably false, since Opera beats Chrome at the most widely used JS benchmark.

    Opera rocks! :cheers::yikes:
  • AsiresFriday, March 25, 2011 3:04:54 PM

Yeah, sunspider optimised for IE9, kraken and dromaeo - for chrome, v8 - for firefox. That's bs.

I had just been accustomed to using a computer right around the time the first commercial release(1996) so unfortunately, I was only aware of IE and netscape at the time. This was during my 6th grade and when high school started, that was the time I first heard of Opera. I have switched to and switched from this browser through the years and it is just great how the devs still strive to keep it a low-resource-consuming app that doesn't need high specs like the other browsers so it is not really picky whether the computer it is in is a little old. Keep up the good work and please do not ever change this crucial goal of true lightweight-centered, simple browsing experience you want to provide for us!!!! CHEERS (Hope this comment gets to the devs though) :p::up:

Is it just me that can't see a single Lifehacker article page ever since they changed their page design? I gave up on Lifehacker cause of this (I wouldn't give up on Opera instead, ofc), but you guys have no problem reading the page above?
Whenever I want to see a page of them, I have to paste its link to google and read from the google's cache...

Which version of Opera do you use?
