Our purpose (part 2 of 2)

What this group is not:

One common topic of discussion on the Take Action forum is what Opera's marketing strategy is, and what we (as a company) are doing to reach various audiences.

Those conversations are okay, but we want to keep those topics outside of this group. I completely agree that we at Opera could always do a better job of publicizing our products and even let our fans know what we're doing to market our browser, but giving a full public and ongoing report of our marketing activities takes a lot of time and isn't always our top priority. Opera fans don't always see the full picture of what we're doing to market Opera, and we generally don't talk about what we're going to do in the future, so all we can do is ask that you have a certain amount of faith that we're actually working on stuff.

On that note, this group is not a place for Opera Software to list all of its marketing initiatives and get feedback from fans. Similarly, this is not a place for fans to suggest marketing campaigns/strategy to Opera. On occasion, we might ask for fan feedback on a current or upcoming campaign, but that won't be the primary purpose here. We do appreciate that kind of feedback and find it useful, but here on this group, we want to encourage another type of participation. We want to focus on what you can do, and how we can help.

In some cases, I might post about some of the events we're attending so Opera fans can arrange to meet us and each other at those events, or I might post about new campaigns/contests we're running that you might be able to help us publicize. In general, however, I'll be working hard to support the initiatives that you come up with on your own (or with the help of other Opera fans). We want to help you get involved by making the overall process enjoyable and worthwhile.
