Yes, this is great news! However, Opera Mini 5 beta doesn't seem to support BlackBerry. This is uber sad!!

  • PhaniWednesday, September 16, 2009 6:22:26 AM

    Awesome Stuff. Congrats.
Seems like your servers are already suffering from the assault of millions of users

Edit: Shouldn't the link be http://www.opera.com/mini/next/ instead of to the mini page?

  • hkxforceWednesday, September 16, 2009 6:23:09 AM

Can I sync with Opera and get the bookmark from Opera Mini 4? I can't find the sync option.

  • Mickeel PramonoWednesday, September 16, 2009 6:42:36 AM

It's said that my phone (SE M600i) is not yet supported. But let me give it a try!

    update
It works! And absolutely a great UI I have ever seen.

  • Vladimir BarosWednesday, September 16, 2009 7:08:54 AM

Found a really big bug on Nokia 5800.
You can view only the first site. Clicking on a further link or entering a new page in the bar will do nothing. It will stay stucked on the first page user loaded until you exit Opera.

BTW. I really like the new release  Tabs and UI are great addition. UX is 10x better. Thanks!

  • RobbieWednesday, September 16, 2009 7:19:44 AM

Look forward to testing this out my new phone (HTC Hero) next week.
Thank you for the password manager. Did miss that previous versions.

  • Jan MikulaWednesday, September 16, 2009 7:49:32 AM

So how does it look like with Sync? Will be in final?

  • shanehWednesday, September 16, 2009 7:57:11 AM

This is great! Everything I felt was missing from Opera mini has gone into 5... awesome.

What I feel is a small regression however is the default "mouse cursor mode", over 4.2 which had the "link selection mode". Using "mobile view" on or off doesn't seem to change it.

Some sites on 4.2 are zoomed in using 'link mode', but on 5 they are zoomed out using 'cursor mode'.. which is kind of annoying.

Hopefully its just a bug in the 'mobile view' mode that isn't in 5 yet.

Also the app isn't signed, which is a bit frustrating on a SE phone, but I know this will be fixed in the final version.

    All up, great improvements!

  • YongShunWednesday, September 16, 2009 9:33:34 AM

    Flash is missing.

  • Dark FurieWednesday, September 16, 2009 9:37:28 AM

She's beautiful, guys. Glad to see the Mini team is still the team to beat, doing some amazing things with java. I'm impressed already but I know the final version will be even better. Can't wait.

  • Atif HassanWednesday, September 16, 2009 10:02:49 AM

Install fails for my blackberry storm...have to wait till opera provides a fix...error is '907 invalid jar, error control flow verification information too large: G'

  • deluminathorWednesday, September 16, 2009 11:53:05 AM

I would gladly give it a try but she's not yet available in Android Market  Hope will appear there soon.

As far as synchronization goes, there is a note "Note that in this beta release, Opera Link is disabled." here: http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/opera-mini-5-beta-developers/

  • Dark FurieWednesday, September 16, 2009 12:39:31 PM

  • Aria Rajasa MasnaWednesday, September 16, 2009 1:44:39 PM

works on my wifi on blackberry bold. This is a game changer, congrats Opera for this achievement  Now if you would please put the sync back so that I can make Opera 10 and Mini 5 as my default browser

  • darjamaWednesday, September 16, 2009 2:01:51 PM

No sync, No RSS, No Custom search? You're killing me here!

Is there a way to change the speed dial bookmarks? Can't seem to edit them.

Try hitting the number 1 after having highlighted the speed dial bookmark.

It should give you the option to edit or clear.

Hi,Currently i was sticked with opera 4.2 on my Nokia E51 phone and was really waiting for this. Thanks for sharing this. But i am confused for one thing. I got this article at http://www.techarena.in/news/10307-opera-mini-5-beta.htm and in the download link, they have provided 5 versions like Opera Mini 5 beta for OS 4.2.x Blackberry Phone, Opera Mini 5 beta for J2ME JAD Java Enabled Phone, Opera Mini 5 beta for J2ME JAR Java Enabled Phone, etc... So is there any difference in this release of Opera Mini 5 beta ? Please let me know. Thanks once again..

  • Dark FurieWednesday, September 16, 2009 5:29:20 PM

The last two you mentioned will work with your phone.

  • BobThursday, September 17, 2009 2:44:43 AM

    Where is sync?

  • pmmaniThursday, September 17, 2009 5:16:00 AM

Exactly! Where is sync? Also any thing i wanna browse within a page especially buttons need to press it twice. Anyone else feel this? I am using N95.

  • Mağruf ÇolakoğluThursday, September 17, 2009 5:42:08 AM

    Nice beta

  • UpalThursday, September 17, 2009 8:16:57 AM

It's good...Still it is in beta stage..So obviously there are some bugs and problems we are facing. But the main problem we face on our N70(which is 176x208 resolution) is the look and UI.It's called sleek..But I think it is giant and cover up my whole skin.I think Opera should think about it.
To cope up with newer phone like touchscreen phone and phone with big resolution opera misses the mainstream of operamini. For those who have small resolution (176x208) phones it is really dissapointing.Hope we will find a solution in the next beta.Operamini rocks...

  • Raafi alghifariThursday, September 17, 2009 12:23:59 PM

Its great, but i can't upload n sync like my opera 4.2 . Thanks is god jobs

  • sonyazisThursday, September 17, 2009 4:20:12 PM

download manager..!! where is it? sucks without it.. worse than 4.2...

  • Dark FurieThursday, September 17, 2009 5:28:47 PM

The download manager isn't in this beta. This beta is to test the new features not the old.

  • kxpThursday, September 17, 2009 10:30:12 PM

Ok these are my thoughts on opera mini 5 beta
    *Where is page information?
*a feature "copy link address" should be available
*Opera link missing - i assume this is beta only to avoid sync problems...
*Opera custom keyboard problems - characters missing from local language used by phone itself (estonian: üõäö) from hardware keyboard. Also issues an issue on touchscreen phones eg. xm5800.
*Also to add to the issues concerning keyboard - it should be bigger or have different modes on touchscreen devices. Not all all children-like small fingers, some of us have biggger ones. Hard to type.
*A feature request: "open in default browser" function. There are some pages that opera mini isn't too god at, let's admit it. Currently it's kind of hard to get the same page in default browser as you can't copy the link address itself. Also a good ide for page information - make it possible to copy the link address or a part of it.

Everything else is superb! Great job mobile team! I just love the speed dial and tabbed browsing. Also the new search is nice but maybe make it more versitile like on desktop browser - "add custom searches"
