Techgage Browser Showdown

September 17, 2010 · by Aleksander Aas

Over at Techgage they just did a browser test featuring the top five browsers. Both final versions and development snapshots like Opera 10.70 and the IE9 beta where tested. The review included the new Mozilla Kraken and Futuremark Peacekeeper tests for performance, as well as the Acid3 test for standards.

It's clear that Opera is the big winner here, topping both of our performance tests, and also scoring a perfect 100/100 in Acid3.

Good stuff. But I wonder why Mozillas browser is the best on their own test, but scores much lower than many other browsers on the other tests...

Mod edit: This is not the place to report snapshot bugs.

Its great Opera winning yet another speed test but what makes Opera so fast for me is the UI ,keyboard shortcuts , mouse gestures ,copy to note,
    Panels etc ............

    Awesome! http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Clap.gif - http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Dance3.gif - :norris:

It DOES appear a tad fishy how Firefox did so well in the Kraken Benchmark and then got its ears pinned back on the Futuremark Peacekeeper Benchmark.

ZOITS! IE8 a 20 on the Acid 3 Test? :yikes: :scared:
No wonder we encounter various unexpected and undesired surprises when viewing our Blogs with IE. And to think that I actually have IE7 in my computer. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Scared.gif - http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/ROFL.gif -
And IE6 in my backup computer. :o:

Of course, I do use Opera though. http://files.myopera.com/Tamil/Smilies/Happy.gif -

The writer on Techgage does not fully understand the tests that are being run, but at least tries to place a solid set of caveats to his particular set of results. Blessedly there is also none of the "Tom's Hardware" nonsense with loading neutered pages from a local folder...
