The people have spoken and Opera is the winner

March 1, 2010 · by Espen André Øverdahl

In January, the About.com Reader's Choice Awards for Web Browsers kicked off. Readers were asked to nominate their favorite browsers and browser-related software. Opera became a finalist in two categories, Best Major Desktop Browser and Best Mobile Browser. And guess what? We won in both categories and it's all because of your help! We would like to thank everyone who voted Opera! We couldn't have done it without the awesome support from our community. :yes:

Check out the descriptions and voting results:

Best Major Desktop Browser

Best Mobile Browser

Again, thanks for supporting and voting for us. We love you. :heart:

    I think this is more a case of the Opera website pointing everyone to about.com. No one else cares about About and I'm assuming other browsers didn't put time into pointing people to this poll.

    @DelvarWorld
    No different than the Mozilla blog pointing everyone to the same vote, asking folk to vote for FF. :rolleyes:

    Actually, the OFFICIAL MOZILLA BLOG asked people to vote for Firefox.

    No one else cares about About and I'm assuming other browsers didn't put time into pointing people to this poll.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong. The OFFICIAL MOZILLA BLOG linked to it, and Skyfire was spamming Twitter and other sites with requests for votes.

    The browser poll had more than 20K votes in total!

    Why not educate yourself about the facts instead of spouting nonsense?

    @DelvarWorld

    Gosh! for a person that posts twice in 4 years on Opera, writing one line in each post,
    you managed to write 2 precious lines here .... Let's hope we will hear from you in another four years again!

    WHERE'S THE VIRAL MARKETING, MR. FOX?

    Funny, I think my.opera users are much more vocal than Mozilla Blog readers. I'm guessing we may have seen a different result if the staff exclusively posted this to ODIN.

    Great news! One more piece of marketing material, just in time for the next wave of new products! Seems your PR hires are working just as hard as the engineers right now. Good Luck!
