The Registers's view on our alpha releases

October 22, 2010 · by Espen André Øverdahl

Just had to share this excellent piece of journalism we read in the insiders look on Opera 11 by The Register:

Trying an Opera alpha in recent times has felt a bit like cutting the brakes of a car to make the drive more interesting.

Hah, at least it goes faster then! Our alphas do make "driving" a lot more interesting and should only be used by "experienced drivers" (sorry for the paraphrasing bomb). :p:

Glad to see Opera receiving rave reviews from the press. I remember the days when pretty much all the reviews (Washington post was a repeat offender) from the press used to be horribly biased and uninformed.

Btw, you said the Guardian and linked to the register.

"You get a lot more functionality with Opera than Chrome, of course, it's like Brazil playing the Faroe Islands at football"

Also your link goes to page 3 out of 3 of the review. Makes me feel like I'm reading the review in a Memento style.

You forgot: "Don't try this at home".
Or should it rather be "Do try this at home"?

I always use the latest Snapshots and Alphas of Opera, so I'm used to that . One the one hand, some things do not work properly (like some Windows 7 features in Opera 11 Alpha), which used to work before, but you get some cool new stuff on the other hand, which make it totally worth to "live on the edge" Can't wait for the next Snapshot of Opera 11 btw

That accurately describes the 10.5x pre-alphas (and later, alphas) :p:

Ever get the feeling someone's talking, but you can't actually hear anything...? At least the press response to 11 has been very positive thus far.

@shivoham talwar: Thanks for the trolling, we needed that... not.
