Using Outlook.com with Opera

August 3, 2012 · by Anna Rohleder

Earlier this week, Microsoft launched a new online email service to replace Hotmail, called Outlook.com.

Many of you reported that the new service did not work in Opera. We got in touch with Microsoft right away and started working on a solution to the problem.

We were able to include a fix for this problem in the 12.01 update. There may still be some issues with attachments for the time being, but we are working on getting that taken care of as soon as possible too.

If you're on a computer and haven't gotten the Opera 12.01 update yet, you can download it from our homepage. Also, you can check out our forums for information on any other specific issues you may have experienced.

Of course, you can also provide your comments here too. Are you using Outlook.com? What are your thoughts or impressions?

I'm using GMail and don't need anything else at the moment... All my previous mail addresses are configured to redirect mail to GMail...

For me, fixes for Google services are higher priority than something from M$...

Really? Are we still doing the dollar sign? Outlook is an amazing interface and I'm glad they fixed it.

I have 12.01, but outlook.com still didn't work. Fix was downloaded with "Check For Updates" => fix not only in new version of Opera, but also in browser_js?

The "plain" would be better word to describe their design.

I'd rather have fixes for a company that treats customers as people rather than ad inventory

Compared to hotmail, outlook is clearly a step in the right direction. It feels more fluid and clean. But only changing the interface will probably not be enough to make me switch back from gmail...
Nevertheless, it's not tolerable that this page does not work correctly on Opera!

MANY MANY MANY people still use hotmail.

I actually prefer hotmail over gmail because it loads faster 80% of the time compared to gmail.

Individual messages load a little bit slower as a disadvantage, but as a Mail for exchange user, Gmail doesn't play nicely with my phone.

Keep up the work and keep hotmail alive.

My Hotmail was working perfectly. Then I switched to Outlook, and then nothing in my inbox would respond to clicks, so I used IE to switch back to Hotmail and upgraded to Opera 12.01 but this problem with the unresponsiveness still continues. What is going on here?

2Short Chiou: try to check update via "Help" / "Check For Updates", and then try outlook.com again

Good idea - will try it out.
  • EJSunday, August 5, 2012 1:33:02 PM

Well somehow the problem has been solved and its working as great as before, at least for me. I dont know how it was solved, but I dont much consider it the users responsibility to solve major problems with browsers and Microsoft. I hope it gets solved everyone else too.

  • Fathima Rifqa GhaffarWednesday, August 15, 2012 3:49:53 PM

I realized that when you have a yahoo mail account, you definitely need a Microsoft office outlook. Yet you have the opportunity to add a name of a web page in contacts. Proudly can add OPERA.
