What Browser Do You Use and Why?

February 17, 2011 · by Espen André Øverdahl

"Oh no, not one of those discussions again!"

Oh yeah, these discussions pop up every now and then. This time it's from a chap called Ron Schenone whom - according to his website - is a "Microsoft Most Valuable Professional" and works for Google (yeah, we know, strange combo). Anyway, his article "IE, Opera, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and More – What Browser Do You Use and Why?" has generated a bit of comments and buzz in the browser community.

His question to all of us is: Which browser do you use and why? Tell him what browser you use and why.

I was 20 when I started with firefox, I used it for almost 4 years, but finally I dislike its instability when you use many extensions, one day, I thought to change to Internet explorer, but I passed.jejejee. After that I meet Opera browser, it was on version 10, So there began my experience with new innovation capability in that browser, Then I was tempted by Chrome, I used for many weeks but don't convince me at all. So I understand may things about standards, stability, dynamic , community and more. Finally I my opera browser is my champion.

I use Firefox mostely for downloading stuff since it has the best extensions, Chrome as my default becasue it loads fast when clicking links in other programs (mail, social clients), Rockmelt for social, IE for when I run in compatibility problems, Opera just when I feel like using it, Opera 10 on my Nokia N8.
  • Cutting SpoonSunday, February 20, 2011 2:20:30 AM

How would you contrast between Rockmelt and Flock? Have you tried Midori? I definitely prefer Opera, and pretty much use it for everything....but I continue to play with the others.

I read the lifehacker article about sharing large files using operaunite.
    I'm a firefoxuser.
Anyway was pleasantly surprised with Opera, despite the fact I cannt get Operaunite to work (The Opera Unite proxy server is currently not reachable), who can help here?
Await the firefox 4 before i decide which browser I shall use.
    Cheers

i use opera on Windows, linux, PDA WM and Android over 10 years. its the best.
But PC version is starting annoy me. it uses huge amount of RAM. I keep opened opera all the day. I keep opened many(5-10+) web pages. Browser itself sometimes freezing for few moments. Sometimes I have to kill opera process... (the same on few pc's WinXP is clean, working perfectly)
So Ive decided to switch browser. Tried Chrome and Firefox, but returned to opera.
Cant live without opera, and cant live with opera!!! what to do? Maybe use old version?

    Opera 10.1 on Nokia N900
  • UndisclosedWednesday, February 23, 2011 6:53:30 AM

I am back to Opera . I have chosen to support this browser. I still have SRWare Iron and Mozilla Firefox installed in case there are problems on a website. It has happened to me with Yahoo! and Gosong for example. For Internet Explorer, I would tend to use Avant or Maxthon if it is better. I also get Opera to use more RAM as well on the PC version. Before having to kill the process, you might want to check if opera is still in the tray. That could be why you have to kill Opera. Otherwise, it may still be possible that you have to kill the process. Opera have serious competition around them and I think they can give great answers to this. I take advantage of tab stacking. I find it great.

I use Chrome and Firefox most of the time on my PC, Opera on DSi very frequently. Though I've been trying Opera for PC, I like it, it needs more themes and I'm having issues, also the way it handles flash is a little odd.

    Try this
http://www.ghostery.com/ its does have side-effects(That don't effect your browser or computer) but you can use it to block the trackers. They don't hack, they are sort of like keyloggers except they collect data while your surfing, may have an keyword collector function and monitors your clicking habits, like the ones that Google have, that most sites use.

This does not help him using Opera, as Ghostery does not support Opera...
