When do you think Opera Mini will be available on the iPhone?
Great news, everybody! Opera Mini for iPhone was officially submitted to the Apple iPhone App store today. A select few first saw it at Mobile World Congress 2010 in February. Now, the “fast like a rocket” browser is taking its first big step towards giving users a new way to browse on the iPhone.
The Final Countup
To celebrate, we've created a countup contest where one lucky winner might walk away with a brand-new iPhone 3GS! All you have to do is correctly estimate when you think Opera Mini will be approved by Apple. You have two attempts to get date and time right. You can either submit a guess and update time or wait out your current guess to submit a new one. The tactic is up to you. ![]()
Rules
- You have to be a My Opera member to participate in this contest.
- The participant with the closest guess when Apple approves Opera Mini wins an iPhone 3GS.

By the way: Are there any updates regarding Opera for Android (both Mini and Mobile). When can we expect a final of Opera Mini?

One question: will it be free, or will it cost?

A: No. If you need full end-to-end encryption, you should use a full Web browser such as Opera Mobile.
Opera Mini uses a transcoder server to translate HTML/CSS/JavaScript into a more compact format. It will also shrink any images to fit the screen of your handset. This translation step makes Opera Mini fast, small, and also very cheap to use. To be able to do this translation, the Opera Mini server needs to have access to the unencrypted version of the Web page. Therefore no end-to-end encryption between the client and the remote Web server is possible.
I think I'll pass unless Mini is secure as Safari on iPhone.
Cheers!

Actually Mini seems nearly invulnerable. The client speaks with the server over an encrypted link. The server logs into your bank over HTTPS, renders what it sees, and passes it on to you.
Full end-to-end security is more often required by companies and government agencies, because NO third party is EVER allowed access to the data being passed along.

It may be, but Opera needs to clear it up, as there's no need for confusion and guessing what Opera may or may not be doing with security and compression. Check out other tech blogs, people are jumping all over this belief of Opera's server compression is not secure. Who wants to give Opera bank account information, passwords, and other private data that is used and sits on their servers? NOT ME! I believe we were discussing this on Haavard's Apple/Opera cooperation blog and I fully agree with your comment:

Server side compression is nothing new to Browsers in Apple's App store.
There is a free Browser App called "Fast Web Free" that also shrinks and reformats pages before sending to iPhone.
Opera should be able to get in Apple's App Store and they shouldn't charge for Mini, or their market share on iPhone will be mini.
Cheers!
