Will Opera Link functionality be expanded, and if so, when?

April 28, 2009 · by Jon S. von Tetzchner

Will Opera Link functionality be expanded, and if so, when? E.g. synchronizing the wand (with extra password for security, and possibility to remotely remove the passwords from all linked applications), rss feeds, settings and more?

Yes, we will continue to expand what you can do with Link. All the ideas you are suggesting have been discussed. We are open for even more ideas.

However, what is also quite interesting is having Link on more platforms. Think about Linking your desktop Opera, mobile Opera and TV Opera. This is where things get really interesting. Clearly Link can be used for more than bookmarks and notes.

If Link came to DSi/Wii that would be very useful. At the moment I just have one bookmark on DSi Opera which is straight to Opera Link site. But if I could get past that and straight to all my bookmarks that would be better.

I want to be able to sync my toolbar (with all the custom buttons and bookmarklets) which is really important to me

 It is important for me that opera link sync RSS feeds, and it is sweet to read in one computer/phone RSS, in the other one marked as read.

And it is important to be able to disable opera mini sync RSS, or configure a custom synchronization. Useful for those who read 10 - 20 feeds or more. ;-)

Link Widgets should be high up on the priority list to continue pushing widget adoption.

Link Feeds, Link Wand, and Link URL Filter would be nice. Link keyboard shortcuts, mouse gestures, site specific preferences in the future wouldn't be bad. Ultimately the having the profile directory stored online is the way to go--everything short of Link M2.

Yeah... more linked bits for Link would be awesome. But what I'd really like to see is a way to flag an individual item or group as not linked. For instance, I have two or three sets of book marks that are only for local environments (e.g. panels that require local machine access - on Winodws box at work I have a separate server, at home the server is the local Linux machine, as a server, but the Windows laptop uses static local storage). The bookmark folder those are in shouldn't be shared. There's also (for when feeds are linkable) some feeds that are home only. And so on.

Opera Link-ing the RSS feed would be very useful to a lot of people.

I agree, I read about 70 RSS feeds and I'd love to be able to have them synchronized with the Desktop, for example I'm on a Nokia N95 8GB and a Nokia E71 and on the N95 its a bit of a pain to enter urls but on the e71 its easy so having these synchronized would be the best, I'd put this on high priority for the next release  pretty please with cherry on top, its really the only thing you're missing and if not then please develop an option to import from Google Reader

Opera Link for feeds is most important function for me

Agreed, adding newsfeeds is a deal breaker for me. Would make switching computers painless, don't use bookmarks as much as links. I use newsfeeds more twice a day.
