Thanks! Is this security update against this hack :

    ?
  • PaiTrakt16. December 2008, 10:30:56

Is the Peregrine alpha vulnerable, and if yes, can we expect an update in the nearest future?
  • honeydew16. December 2008, 10:36:15

No Opera 9.63 for Fedora 10?

    :ko:
  • Ravindran16. December 2008, 10:37:49

    Thanks.
  • harish.l16. December 2008, 10:48:34

Opera 10 scores a 10 on that test DoubleT!
  • mgillespie16. December 2008, 10:50:00

Indeed, there are some nasty ones there. Will Opera10 users be getting a update, or is Opera10 not vunerable?
  • AhmedGhanem16. December 2008, 10:55:53

Oh, I saw there's a new RSS from the desktop team and I said well it's definitely a new Alpha :D but it's not, anyway thanks for your effort guys ( I use alpha 1 as my default now  )
  • ar1pe16. December 2008, 11:09:48

  • xoed16. December 2008, 11:10:57

What about 10.0. Is it Vulnerable?
  • Pedric16. December 2008, 11:14:39

You're not supposed to use an alpha (nor beta) version for everyday browsing, anyway. So Opera 10 may be affected and not patched as timely as Opera 9.
  • pcavalcanti200816. December 2008, 11:29:50

Nothing to do about the update - but i don´t know if this has ever been suggested before - but Opera´s customization possibilities makes it extremely easy to surf the web and keep everything under control, the way you want it to be. That´s the reason i love Opera, and it´s my main browser.

And there´s a lot of features in Opera(like the ´start bar´) that i really miss on my file managers.
Couldn´t you turn opera into a file manager as well? :D with its plugins the manager could preview all your files, and there could be also support for previewing pdf and other Adobe files, fonts, etc. It would be the best file manager ever!

    What do you think?

  • arcy16. December 2008, 12:09:48

After I install 9.63 does not open page with Speed Dial :frown:
When I close all the cards automatically displays not Speed Dial only a completely blank page :frown:
Also after running browser does not show up the speed dial only a completely blank page.
In preferences run I did not change anything.
After I run new tabs manual speed dial displays ok.
In 9.62 everything was ok - speed dial run automatically after I start the browser and closed all tabs.

P.S. Sorry for my poor english :ko:
  • smallfox16. December 2008, 12:37:08

    nice.. thanks!
  • tomba416. December 2008, 12:47:43

Is there no Linux Qt4 version in official releases? I'm still using last RC of 9.60 because of this.
  • Alpha-Toxic16. December 2008, 13:00:38

@DoubleT: I think that test is crap.
    for example
    Autocomplete=Off Prevents Form FillsFAILED
and Opera doesn't even _have_ autocomplete... (and turning off the wand does prevent form fills) AFAICS
  • mcd16. December 2008, 13:01:19

    >> Couldn´t you turn opera into a file manager as well?

    "file://localhost/" works perfect
  • sebt16. December 2008, 13:11:18

As usual, it's nice to see Opera on the leading edge with regard to security, especially in light of yet another major IE security scare doing the rounds at the moment.

    :D

  • vlevi16. December 2008, 15:54:19

I have installed it, and I noticed, that the watch thread/ignore thread option disappeared from the mail part!
I still can see my watched threads, but I can no longer mark a new thread to watch, and I cannot remove a thread from the list of wathced threads.
    :frown:

Cannot confirm. For me Follow/Ignore works as it should (running under Windows XP). Which system do you use?
  • Scam16. December 2008, 17:04:42

I wanna next Opera 10 alpha/beta. It is so stable that I set it as default browser! Waiting for the next snapshot.
  • Lex116. December 2008, 18:10:27

And you have again broken transfer of a command line :frown: .
If parameter in command line contains spaces you _must_ use quotes for it.

There's still the issue of the UNIX Web Search dialog box (Alt-Space activates it) where searches don't work unless you specifically select the search engine each time. For example, if you've selected Google, the string 'Google' will appear in the dialog box title, but the Google engine won't actually be selected in the dropdown box (it won't show the Google icon, but something else instead). Sort of defeats the purpose of a fast shortcut key if you have to reach for the mouse each time.

I've reported this in the 9.6 RC's, and the 9.60 and 9.61 releases. And it's still there in 9.62 and 10.0a. Bug reported as DSK-238382 near the end of October.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, can someone look into this (either to fix it, or at least confirm that it's an issue)?
  • lamarca16. December 2008, 18:42:35

    nice one.
  • funkspock16. December 2008, 18:46:56

Could you please look at all the security issues mentioned here:

    Thanks.
  • illiad16. December 2008, 18:53:26

    Thanks for the update!

    www.nissan.de doesn't work again (I guess it's browser incompatiblity)

Also Opera Desktop team is messed up:

    http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/4404/95534851tc7.jpg

(I have zoom set to 80% just to capture more space to show you this)

    Any idea?
  • haavard17. December 2008, 12:28:36

miki69: It would be nice if you could try to provide at least a few details about what you mean by "doesn't work". It seems that it shows some error page, and spoofing as Firefox fixes that. In other words, it's browser sniffing again.
  • miki6917. December 2008, 12:39:25

@haavard: that's what I said. I get error page with Opera, but when I identify as FF, it works ok

  • nohatmatt17. December 2008, 12:45:41

This is the most troublesome update I've installed in a few years. Several sites for which I had browser identification changed to Mask as Firefox stopped working and needed to revert back to identify as Opera. Several sites that were set to Identify as Opera had to have those site preferences changed to Mask as IE or Firefox in order to function. Hulu is one site that now works when identified as Opera. Wells Fargo is unusable for me.

I never really know what to do about sites that break Opera. There is no central reporting and no dataset of fixes available (except for the obscure to me but assumedly popular sites in override_downloaded.ini).

9.63 is a good example for me where a critical security flaw necessitates an upgrade to continue using Opera safely, yet the many changes in browsing behavior make it extremely tempting if not mandatory to skip the security update and/or rollback to a vulnerable Opera version.

It just continues to look like Opera, my favorite browser will gradually become another Safari on Windows architecture clone in the spirit of Apple's (a) deny all vulnerabilities (b) force every shippable update with security fixes regardless the effect on end users.

    This is a sad day.
  • miki6917. December 2008, 13:06:26

What I would also like to see (maybe it's already in Opera 10 alpha), is when you type a word in address field it should automaticaly search and transfer you to that website (like in FF). In FF if I type in address field "Perfectdisk" it will take me to www.raxco.com, Perfectdisk home page. If I do the same in Opera, it will give me either error or try to transfer me to perfectdisk.CO.UK (don't know why, but it always goes to UK extension). If I type VLC it will redirect me to http://hmv.com/hmvweb/home.do?affiliate=buyat&lpgrp=network instead of VLC videolan homepage (as in FF). I guess FF is more intuitive in this respect.

ps. funny thing is if I type Opera in Opera address field, it will transfer me to opera.co.uk, unlike FF that transfers me to opera.com. And I'm not from UK.

ps2. I've also noticed that FF goes to google.com first and then redirects (you can see this in
    progress bar)

EDIT: putting suffix .com to the front seem to resolve some issues, or most of them. However VLC is not resolved. Thanks TAMIL for your help
