A bunch of extension and fresh UNIX fixes

November 11, 2010 · by Patryk Obara

Greetings from Poland to all Desktop Team blog readers. :) Almost five days have passed since last snapshot, so it's about time we shared new builds with you. Teams in Oslo and Wrocław were occupied with making extensions more reliable; we also have some user interface work included and lots of UNIX fixes (including few important ones).

BTW, we will occasionally refer to Opera 11 as Kjevik. :)

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all. And keep your cat away (just in case).

Darker border for the installer's progressbar wanted. And thank you for the error console in developer mode!

Right. That still needed a little more loving attention to Mac and Unix display issues (and stability).
  • Asires11. November 2010, 13:34

Opera now warns before uninstall extension. We waited for it long :D

PS: many extensions is not working
  • pinfeng11. November 2010, 13:36

Cool! Looking forward to using full full screen mode under Openbox now :)

Btw, is there a chance to improve the Opera systray icon in Linux by replacing it with a nice SVG image? The one under Windows looks way better...
  • kanstisama11. November 2010, 13:37

Great job, finally Google Translate extension doesn't crash Opera when I try to translate a second world... so it means it's finally usable! :)

Can't wait for those to come. There's something I noticed in connection with mail: appart of the menu entry there is no other way to get to your mails than to open the panels and click on the mail panel, which is quite weired, as you'd generally not need the panel during browsing (as it shows automatically when in the mail read). I hope I could point it out good enough :/
  • Martin Rauscher11. November 2010, 13:48

    Installer doesn't start for me...

And after extracting it with 7Zip Opera doesn't start at all. 1055 Installer and build works fine.
  • sabisan11. November 2010, 13:52

  • abhitux11. November 2010, 13:56

Unix builds are finally getting your TLC. Thank God for small mercies. Please please please work on the mail panel. Even though it is alpha snapshot, it needs a major revamp.
  • nanana111. November 2010, 13:59

Confirmed. Mouse forward and backward buttons fixed and now working with Build 1060.

Now back to doing business with Opera.

    Thanks, Opera Dev Team !

You can easily set up a custom keyboard shortcut for opening the mail panel. Just add the following to your shortcut list in the preferences:

    Platform Windows-Unix-MCE, m ctrl shift --> Read mail, 1

Then by using Ctrl+Shift+M you get to the mail panel.
    Hope this helps ;)

This started several builds ago..But may be there is some my problem with cache or certificates and i just cant login into live.com :( (from chrome this works well)
    Windows 7 x64
  • Avola11. November 2010, 14:07

Hm.. Half my extensions have stopped working after installing this build - NotScripts, Turn off the Lights, Google Images Direct, Youwatch... :(
  • jleslie11. November 2010, 14:08

Yahoo Mail Classic still hangs after one click (WinXPsp3), in this case on the Spam folder.

Also if I've been browsing for a few hours (or just left it running) it will take 1-2 minutes to shut down. (The Windows disappear over 20-30 secs then it loiters for the rest of the time.)

Clear cache, delete coocies, relevant to live.com, close Opera, then delete opcert6.dat and opcacrt6.dat in your Opera profile folder and then start Opera... It will recreate those files if they were corrupted... That happens to me from time to time...

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG :eyes:
Mouse navigation is fixed on windows! :hat:

    back to serious business:

"Install for" option in installer is greyed out. "External device" should be selectable even if another opera version is installed on that PC.
  • Luca Viozzi11. November 2010, 14:32

cannot close the facebook chat :|

    seven x64 anyone confirm?
  • eliotcougar11. November 2010, 14:35

All extensions which require some kind of "Login" do not work... Google Tasks, Twitter button and so on... Clicking "Login" does nothing...
  • Witold Baryluk11. November 2010, 14:40

    THANKS YOU FOR UNIX FIXES.

Now it is much more smooth and nice. Especially fullscreen mode, scrolling corruptions, file dialog and middle click pasting :) Not it all works :)

Dzięki. Mam nadzieje że macie dzisiaj wolne jednak!

  • rekkoo11. November 2010, 14:54

Ok, I give up. Please, can someone tell me how can I run any extension? I add few of them but works only one which is helping downloading youtube videos. Rest of extensions I can't run, I see them in customize screen but cannot drag anywhere (even stupid clock extension), i can manage extensions, disable or enable them but can't run even one of them!
  • Karl Dubost11. November 2010, 15:00

    What designates Kjevik?
  • Patkos Csaba11. November 2010, 15:13

NoAds extension is kind of broken, at least on Mac, with this build. I don't know who's fault it is, so I just comment here.

The extension is running but it is blocking a lot of thing it should not and the menu is not clickable and the shortcuts are not working ...
  • Morphdreamer11. November 2010, 15:16

    @rekkoo
Right click on address bar and select "Reset toolbar to its defaults".

Just install them, that's all. You can enable/disable them from the extension manager.

However, note that some extensions have buttons, others don't. For example, I use the mousetrail extension, it has no settings, button or anything. I just see a red line on the screen when I do a mouse gesture.

Other extensions do have a button and possibly configuration interface, too. I use Weather Forecast, Inline Translator, TaskBoard, etc.
  • oxygenroot11. November 2010, 15:23

writing for the first time :) love this browser and using it for ages and love it! and extensions work great too! and as more and more fixes are coming, becoming even better :)

one small issue that perhaps need reporting as it has been present for the last few linux snapshots (kde 4.5.3 - openSUSE). on some pages, the dropdown menus simply don't work and don't show any entries, while on some, they get disabled completely.
one example - samsungmobile(dot)com site, choose india or poland (these are the ones i tested) and when you go to join/register as a new user, the operator entry shows nothing, while in other browsers, the whole list is shown.

    best wishes again!

Though lots of scrolling corruptions have been fixed with this Linux build, there still is at least one scrolling corruption left:

Care to clarify. It should work. What IME are you using. What platform are you using and where do you see the issue. All though out Opera or only in certain fields.

Extensions can "steal" userJS the localStorage Object. A bird told me, that there is a bug in the tracker where this happened with 2 extensions, may be someone can add the additional info that it happens with plain userJS and extensions too ...

I have the extension as plain userJS in 10.63 and it lives happily together with the other userJS.

The extension alone works in build 1060 and the userJS alone too, but putting them together kills one of them, most of the time the userJS but sometimes the extension too ...

Install options dialogue "Use Opera as my default browser" status of check-box is not respected. Although this was cleared, Opera 10.63 was no longer my default browser after installing Opera 11 Alpha. (Windows XP SP3).
