Another 11.01 snapshot with even more crashfixes.

January 20, 2011 · by Helge Gjølme

Hello, my name is Helge, and unlike Ruarí I have a life. That's why I don't post snapshots as often as him. lol

Here we go with another 11.01 snapshot with even more crash fixes. This build will hopefully fix the most annoying crashes from the last snapshot, for example logging in to vkontakte.ru

Please remember to give as much information as possible if you do experience a crash and you upload the log. Reproduction steps are always valuable.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

I'm slightly annoyed with the new minimalistic installer screen you're using for these builds. I have to open its details every time I do an update, as
    1) It reverts to English instead of the language I use and
    2) It sets Opera to 'Default browser' which I don't want.

Why can't it just remember? Having a one-click installation defeats its purpose if the parameters are wrong every time.

Less fixes to keep the job running...whistle

    opera has severe problems with Right-to-Left languages from earlier versions yet ;
    >> dragging mouse and selecting characters does not highlight them correctly, sometimes half of a character is highlighted, sometimes "dot"s will be disappeared ; (selecting characters from right to left)

I've already filed a bug report (I don't have the number currently with me) for Opera 11 but it hasn't been solved yet (still exists in this snapshot). Steps to reproduce:

    1. Have several tabs open.
    2. Press ctrl+tab and keep ctrl pressed.
    3. Hover the mouse cursor over any of the tabs in the list.
    4. ???
    5. The ctrl+tab list closes (shouldn't happen, but instead should stay opened until I release the ctrl key).

So basically if I have a list of about 100 open tabs (and I do) and I want to select one with the mouse while ctrl+tabbing then it's really annoying because I can't stop and think if I've already moved the mouse over a tab. It's not a very big deal but it gets on my nerves.

Bug noticed on computers using WinXP and Win7. Behavior doesn't occur while right-click+mouse-wheel, just ctrl+tab.

Another bug would be that while ctrl+tab-ing you can select a tab with the mouse, but you can't do that while right-click+mouse-wheel-ing.
  • Oleg20. January 2011, 13:37

    1. If the "Enable special effects" in <Appearance> in the state <off>, we can see "hover" artifacts - broken buttons, broken panels.
    2. Bring back the ability to change bg color in skin Section [Panel Treeview Skin.focused] - are not working correctly.
    In earlier versions everything worked.

I need reload first link, but second link loads 100% in first time here now. Strange, before no of these two links loads 100% in first time.

Probably the error is caused by something different. The problem now is that you have the new key but we have not updated our repository yet. We will before 11.01 goes final.
  • Mikkel Brevik Mehus20. January 2011, 14:20

A problem I've been having with Opera for while with the forum "www.funcominvestor.no" is that I cannot enter topics with ÆØÅ (scandinavian letters) in the subject title.

I get the error message: "Redirection Status

The URL was redirected to http://www.funcominvestor.com/topic/v%C3%A6r-forsiktig-med-radene-som-gis. Please click the link to go there.

    Generated by Opera."

Works with all other browsers on my PC.

The Skin, especially the Navigation-Bar, looks different on Speed Dial than on all other tabs. I like this look ;-)

I'm not sure when the fix can make it into the desktop release, but it is a high priority bug.
  • Stilezy20. January 2011, 15:42

Installer - if you choose a different options -> language when upgrading, it gets ignored.

Certificate popup bug (Windows 7, consistent) - pages that pop up 2 or more certificate dialog boxes on loading, the earlier ones have the buttons greyed out when a newer one pops up over it. When the newer one is closed the accept/reject buttons on the others remain greyed out and cannot be clicked.

Thank you for the emphasis on crash and NSL/loading fixes. This has been a very weak point for years. I hope Opera will be as stable as it's fast some time.
  • Andy20. January 2011, 15:49

This bloody-colored opera installer... I really like this! smile
Just as confirmation: is links like "apt://wine1.3" works now in Linux? (http://www.winehq.org/download/deb)

Two points: sorry for my ugly English and many thanks for great browser.

  • beholder-again20. January 2011, 16:08

I can't believe how many crashers has the new version 11 had. It's another reason NOT to use a brand new version of Opera x.00 at all but rather wait for fixed x.01 a bit later.
  • Ryandi Sandi20. January 2011, 16:14

    PGO enable (linux)?
  • NEOAethyr20. January 2011, 16:40

Hmm another build that crashes when I goto clear my cache.
    Back to 1128 for me.

Nice to see another build though.
Attempts to fix things are what counts.

However it seems like we have to wait for 2-3 weeks or more for a new builds these days.
It's not a big deal, well it wouldn't be such a big deal if those builds weren't so messed up lol.
Still, looking forward to new builds.

Please fix that crash on clearing cache though, that's a deal breaker for me.
The 1128 build crashes when I close a blank page and bookmark page in a single go using the win7 taskbar.
Very annoying and I'de like to move on from that, because I've crashed it that way so many times, and since it's an old build from months ago it seems, I never bother sending in reports, I hope the new builds aren't that way now that I think about it.

    Ctrl+Shift+V shortcut still not fixed.
    Scenario:
    1. Copy a URL to buffer
    2. Open a new blank tab with ctrl+t
    3. Hit ctrl+shift+v (paste and go) when cursor is in address field
See that the url is pasted into active tab, but is actually opened in a new, background tab.

This is a thing I use all the time. It is broken in 11, I'll keep using 10.63.

  • solvpilen20. January 2011, 17:10

    Multi-file upload,
is there anybody who have got this to work in the Opera 11?

    One file works fine.
Selecting several files works fine, but they doesn't upload. It looks like it doing something, but it end just with a blink and return to the same page with no file uploaded.
  • NEOAethyr20. January 2011, 17:14

    @solvpilen
If you are talking about imgshack, opera v11.x doesn't work at all for me in either flash mode or non-flash mode.

There's also vb forums that you can't upload files in.

I guess I might as well mention that yahoo mail classic doesn't load up the inbox either and hasn't for a very very long time.
  • blaxima20. January 2011, 17:35

    http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/

Only a quarter of the flash video is visible. This has been a problem in all of the 11 builds

Log in does not work either from any cbc.ca page

    DSK-326322

Also, http://imageshack.us/ when I went to upload the above image the browse button that should be next to the bar disappears. It reappears when I resize the browser itself but clone the tab and the button disappears again until resized.

    Win xp sp3
  • Kamalesh20. January 2011, 17:39

The sluggishness seems fixed from the last build in OSX. Gmail, Twitter(various others) had big CPU spikes (even with On-Demand Plugins = ON).

With Tabs-on-the-left, sometimes the tab thumbnail animations aren't smooth as you move up or down to different tabs. When hovering on the Expand button, it shows a tooltip, but it's obscured behind the cursor, making it difficult to read. Maybe adding "double-click" to the tooltip will help users discover "double-click to expand/collapse" also.

(Maybe add a color-contrast on-hover, will be easier to discover the expander, for most users, I think.)
  • Unrealmirakulix20. January 2011, 17:41

    I also use Win7 x64. ???

PS: I have another download bug in the last weeks: Downloads stop immediately, when I start them.

PPS: And Speed dial actualization is not working. Wheele is turning but nothing happens. I have to delete the picture manually.

PPPS: When I want to forward a mail with an embedded video (flash), it isn't shown anymore.

    ???
