Approaching a Tunny RC: Focus on stability

November 30, 2011 · by Haavard

We're approacing a Release Candidate for 11.60, and this build contains numerous crash fixes, and of course other bug fixes that need testing.

Edit: Please test any problems in 11.5x as well, and report whether it is a regression in 11.60 or not.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Finally, Opera 11.60 remembered the certificate I complained about the last snapshots. Thanks!

    The widget issue remains:
[Mac OS X 10.6.8] Crash on launching widgets that have been installed in a previous stable version after update. Re-installing seems to solve the problem but this seem hardly intended

no icons on win7 x64, too.

also, is there any chance of fixing win7 jumplist icons before final?

Since you're focusing on stability, would you consider to correct page printing bug already signaled in DSK-350032? It's a pretty critical one, none wants to use a browser which is not able to print pages without crashing.
EDIT:after the third restart of this Opera Build the bug was gone.
EDIT2: bug still here if you try to print a loading page!

    WOW!!! Opera wins!..
ECMAScript test262: Opera fails only 1 subtest out of 11108... Woah!..

It's: S15.1.2.2_A5.1_T1 "parseInt is no longer allowed to treat a leading zero as indicating octal."
  • dżekdzek69Wednesday, November 30, 2011 3:32:47 PM

Do you list all fixed bugs?
I think DSK-351590 reported by me is rather important one - I've tested it on two PC's with XP and on both after some time notifications about new mail stops being shown (and sound won't play).

BTW: I know it's not good idea to publish buglist, but checking the status of own reported bug would be nice - to see if you noticed it, reproduced already, removed, fixed or whatever..

Please update the WebM-decoder before you release 11.60.
The current one causes a high CPU-utilization.

Yes, native video was supposed to be more CPU friendly than Flash (but I still prefer native video version of YouTube). ;-) However under Linux it's probably something related to GStreamer or maybe generic compositing video in page?
  • Francesco De Domenicofrankdd89Wednesday, November 30, 2011 4:04:13 PM

What's the point of this? Why not just restore the history and search icons too, since it's (imho) butt-ugly and inconsistent to only show bookmark stars there
  • ahoj1234Wednesday, November 30, 2011 4:18:07 PM

Search bar in Opera works differently update by update :/ I want back "11.50" settings..

    1)
On 11.50 - If I write a piece of address and hit enter, opera open LAST visited site with address which include the piece what I write..
On 12.00(latest build) - If I write a piece of address and hit enter, opera open FIRST site with address which include the piece and is 1. IN ALPHABET..
on 11.60(this build)-If I write a piece of address and hit enter, opera open FIRST visited site with address which include the piece what I write..

    2)
and another big issue for me:
autocomplete address is broken :/ since.. who knows, but in latest 12.00 build is this issue too..
    try to open:" http://www.spszl.cz/ "
after this try to open: " spszl.cz "
and you get an error..! On 11.60 and previous builds of 12.00 was everything OK..

    3)
and another problem is with fonts on this site (www.spszl.cz) ! still..

IDK.. Do you read my post? smile please edit it or quote..

edit by myself: W7 x64 (Opera 12.00 HWA enabled),tested with this and another builds. But I think on another system it should be the same..

DSK-351308 "Cached images" setting disables Dragonfly buttons' display

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOW! That's amazing!!!

DSK-351484 Restore bookmark icons in address bar dropdown

I don't see anything changed too, moreover the list has big gap now on the left between history/bookmark icon and the URL. There's also flicker of the icon on the left from address field when you open dropdown list and move mouse over its items.
I also experienced several crashes when "running over" the dropdown list items with Dragonfly switched on and switching to another app but it's not constant.
  • Francesco De Domenicofrankdd89Wednesday, November 30, 2011 4:22:54 PM

I've published a video which demonstrates that Print bug is still not fixed. It occurs when you try to print a loading page causing Opera to crash.

Scrolling on sites such as cnet, theverge, gmail and surely a lot of others is very bad making them unusable. Seriously, are you going to release an RC without fixing this important issue??
  • einiWednesday, November 30, 2011 4:26:04 PM

Still got the "Jumping Bar" problem.
    Very anoying for a stable.

I placed a Button next to the Opera-Menu-Button. On focusing the button, the whole bar jumps down a few pixel.
Screenshot from 12.00 but same problem.

You should be more specific, since YT has several interfaces (edit, it seems that I've catch earlier comment version). ;-)
I have nearly not problems with that one which uses native video if possible, only:
    - playback rate doesn't work
    - few videos (probably these with advertisements, as they have them in flash version) doesn't play

With 11.60 it finally shows buffer status (that gray bar) and recently fullpage view was fixed, that probably on Google side (kind of fullscreen, but using full webpage instead of screen).

But flash videos works fine too, Kubuntu 32 bit.

Arabic fonts still broken on linux version. Arabic, Urdu, Persian sites almost unreadable. Please understand the annoyance of those who use non-roman scripts. Imagine how will you use Opera if english fonts are broken? This bug is a show-stopper altough not for those who use roman script.

    On amazon.com: E.g. this page:
    http://www.amazon.com/1C-40290Cryostasis-Cryostasis-Download/dp/B003HKS138

Section "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" is displayed properly only if I "Mask as firefox". But EVEN THEN, when choosing to view the next page from the arrows left or right, I get objects that do not load.

    open bookamrks library
    scroll down 100%
open any folder with enough bookmarks to enable scroll bar
Result: Scroll bar is in the same position you were before you open the folder.
Can anyone confirm this behavior? It's a bug?

This build is not particularly stable yet. Freezes quite a lot. Have several things running so can't be sure if it is plugin related. No crashes so far though.

  • saturn79Wednesday, November 30, 2011 6:42:23 PM

If freezing for minutes is a stability issue, please consider fixing DSK-350987. Please read http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1126622 for more information.
  • Fernando MoreirafpmoreWednesday, November 30, 2011 6:45:47 PM

It isn't a stability issue, it's rather a very annoying problem.
The GMail's font size on email editing always defaults to small.

Anyone else finding the Star Bookmark button in the address bar sort of unusable?

It works if you simply want to add a bookmark or add to speed dial.

However, if you use the drop-down button to pick a folder there are problems. What's happening is that if you select a folder from the dropdown menu that doesn't overlap with the star button's menu the whole thing closes (which basically means that if you don't pick a folder that is either the first or second folders showing in the list it will close). This also makes the down arrow on the scrollbar unusable. This makes it very difficult to use the star button for bookmarks.

    Win7 x64
