Christmas comes early for Opera users

December 17, 2009 · by Huib Kleinhout

While everyone is off for Christmas vacation, the desktop team is working hard on preparing a nice holiday gift for Opera users. On December 22nd we will release a 10.5 pre-alpha. We'll keep it a surprise for now, but the keyword is: speed. :D

Edit: There are some reports about an old internal build of 10.5 being available. Don't run it, the official build on Tuesday is much better and you don't risk getting nasty trojans on you pc.

...and browser extensions... why not? p:
  • lwiczek17. December 2009, 15:30

I not nececerly hope it's Caracan - I'd gladly see speed improvement in Opera DOM + connection (long wait for connect/download site + render it, have anyone been on last.fm charts page?!). JS in current Opera is more than OK!
  • Philipp17. December 2009, 15:38

    nice!

I have been checking this page multiple times/day to see whether a Xmas gift might be coming!

Whatever it is, I am sure we will love it!
  • EricJH17. December 2009, 15:48

That's amazing news. Time for Opera to hit the competition where it hurts .... :sherlock: :wizard: :hat:  :drunk:

Let's see what it may bring: Vega, Carakan....:coffee:

    Driving home for Christmas
Oh, I can't wait to see those faces!
I’m driving home for Christmas, yea
Well I'm moving down that line
    And it's been so long
    But I will be there
    I sing this song
    To pass the time away…
  • Andrey Petrov17. December 2009, 15:59

    Cool!
  • Ar1Pe17. December 2009, 16:02

    :D
  • Ferris17. December 2009, 16:08

Very excited... would love to see 2D acceleration....but Opera doesn't really need it. And it would only be supported on the MS platform anyways right? Oh unless it was openGL????
  • Kelson C17. December 2009, 16:14

    Presto 2.4+Carakan!
  • Ruari Ødegaard17. December 2009, 16:21

    @Daniel ????

Just because you are working from home that does not mean you can drink!
  • Janusz W.17. December 2009, 16:21

Yeee, Presto 2.4 in Vega, and possibly Carakan

Thanks to the Desktop Team elves to get this done for our year-end playing.

Hopefully, we'll see Presto v2.4 on Tuesday, that'll tweak DOM step-through (since it's already in Mini/Mobile).

Carakan will be cool, too, but the inane artificial benchmarking advertising is getting old...but people believe them to accurately reflect real-world browsing, so...

Btw, if you want border-radius, it needs the upcoming Vega (vector graphics library) to enable...so please tone down the 95 posts about it every week.

  • Андрей Панов17. December 2009, 16:27

  • João David17. December 2009, 16:53

Will we be finally getting Face Gestures? I've been waiting for that since almost a year back. You've announced it last year, if I'm not mistaken.
  • greench17. December 2009, 16:55

  • Matheus17. December 2009, 17:43
