Fixing crash bugs for Unix beta release

April 30, 2010 · by Haavard

Ruario promised you a Unix beta soon, and here is the release candidate for Opera 10.53 Beta for Unix!

This build mostly has stability fixes, but there are a couple of fixes for issues with TLS, and CPU and memory usage. See the changelog for all the details.

We have also re-enabled pubsuffix, so let us know if you encounter any "Never Stops Loading" (NSL) problems, such as the "Waiting for DNS confirmation of cookie domain(s)" message in the progress bar (when set to appear at the bottom).

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

  • Luca Viozzi30. April 2010, 15:37

mhmh dunnno why but i feel that this build is really much more slower loading pages then the official 10.53 on my xp sp3...
  • Arguggi30. April 2010, 15:38

I don't get it, isn't this supposed to be 10.54 since 10.53 was released today?

Does seem odd. I suspect it's because 10.53 was pushed though as a priority overtaking this one.

I suppose it's now gotten messy, as the roadmap was that Unix 10.5x beta was supposed to be aligned with 10.53 release for Win/Mac, but now the security update slipped in there, we are getting post-10.53 builds still.

I suspect once Unix hits beta @ 10.53, then everything will then move onto 10.54 towards Windows/Mac fixes and Unix final.
  • hurug30. April 2010, 15:49

I don't get it also. What platform is it for ?
Since yesterday I installed Ubuntu. And I still have Vista.

What is relevant for each ?
  • dupel30. April 2010, 15:50

Yippy! My memory leak was fixed =)

And despite apparent focus on unix, core fixes are one of the most significant since early 1050.

This is an snapshot, the version numbers or build don't mather, just test it
  • Mark Gillespie30. April 2010, 15:54

Weirdness if you type a space into find in page:

    http://i39.tinypic.com/r06srn.png

(those Yellow bars have text under them, not spaces!)

Changelog does not indicate that Java plugin now works in Unux, nor is it listed under known issues anymore...
  • pieRr0Ur30. April 2010, 15:57

Why is this version 10.53 ??

Not everyone knows Opera Desktop Team BLOG. . . :frown:
  • Rolf30. April 2010, 16:04

And again, F2 is not working...

This developer build isn't for everyone,

  • pieRr0Ur30. April 2010, 16:06

  • Rafael Luik30. April 2010, 16:11

"CORE-28201 (Find in page crashes if search string starts with space)"
 It's the second time I see you fixing that bug! :D

Do I need to remember you that right-click note > copy does nothing?
  • sebt30. April 2010, 16:13

Linux: Seems to be hanging whenever I use Page..Open or Page..Save as, as for the last few builds :frown:

Also input type="text" controls are too small using KDE 4 widgets.

Windows: crash when printing on the this site. Print dialog appears and Opera goes 100% CPU. Was working at 10.51, but started crashing since 10.52 pre-releases.

    Seb
  • MLx30. April 2010, 16:30

Linux: while multi-monitor is workable now, Opera still ignores when changes to resolution/monitor layout happen while it's running (using xrandr).

Also, no effort seems to be made to keep context menus on one monitor.

Cannot confirm, works for me... Could it be your printer driver?
  • Mark Gillespie30. April 2010, 16:42

    Raised DSK-296838

Opera changes focus when find in page autocloses. (start a find in page), then whilst it's still open start typing in the address box (or search box).

When findin page autocloses, it takes away focus from your typing...

May be a regression since 10.50, not sure..
  • OperaDrBruce30. April 2010, 16:44

    Changelog is for all systems?
  • James Cassell30. April 2010, 16:48

Is there an executive summary of what changed in the EULA?
  • Charlie Clark30. April 2010, 16:48

hm, creates a new 1050 profile on Mac OS X. :-/
  • Rustam30. April 2010, 16:55

why after final vesion 10.53, again 10.53 (3381)?
  • Volkodav30. April 2010, 17:02

PS M$ hotmail does not load. Not sure if is a browser or OS issue. Running Ubuntu 10.04. Yahoo and others are fine. Will get out of MS world completely
  • Varun30. April 2010, 17:04

"Waiting for DNS confirmation of cookie domain"

It is back, i reproduced the way i always have on my machine.
Load 20+ tabs simultaneously, wait for some time, then manually crash/kill opera, on restart some tabs/sites show this msg.

BUT the sites are loading fully. after they show this message, and other tabs have loaded up, the problem site loads normally.

So msg is shown sometimes, but site loads up fully soon enough eventually.

    Authorization does not work.
  • Roman30. April 2010, 17:13

in opera 10.10 typing /home/<user> takes me to
    file://localhost/home/<user>

in this build it just hangs and stops
responding .. had to kill it

    (using opera-10.53-6330.x86_64.linux.tar.bz2, debian lenny)
  • Michał30. April 2010, 17:19

DSK-296595 (New mail notification steals focus)

Yeah, that one was really annoying...
  • miloe30. April 2010, 17:24

Has someone noticed a white pixel when browsing with this build on Ubuntu 10.04? I have a white pixel in Opera and when I move the opera window, the white pixel moves too.
  • Gosha30. April 2010, 17:25

OS: FreeBSD 8.0 i386, fluxbox that build, if i click on any menu item which have submenu (for example if i click on unite or widgets) all menu disappears. English isn't my native language
В общем товарищи, переведите кто-нибудь разработчикам, что если я щёлкаю на элементе меню у которого есть подменю, то вся менюха пропадает. Хотя по идее просто ничего не должно происходить. Спасибо!
  • Patkos Csaba30. April 2010, 17:26

Good job, this is the first 10.5x build that starts up instantly with my few thousand of mails ... nice surprise.

Question: I saw there are no known issues. Does this mean that font issues should also be solved?
  • Jan De Luyck30. April 2010, 17:26

Crashes often when saving files. The dialogbox will open, i hit save and *poof* it's gone.

Running on debian 64bit. Desktop environment is XFCE.

You better check ctrl+f12 -> advanced -> cookies -> accept cookies. Dont know for what default setting of Opera 10.1 is changed to this. Maybe this regress.
  • Andrew Sam30. April 2010, 17:40

Facebook login not working in the homepage. Fonts still the same, no antialiasing and not respecting font settings.. otherwise things seem to be okay!

    Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid lynx
  • ITA8430. April 2010, 17:51

It's not a Unix-specific issue, but I'd like to have the Scroll Marker working again, it hasn't been showing for me since 10.50, neither on Vista nor on Linux.
  • Jose Ricardo De Leon30. April 2010, 17:57

I think I have a NSL bug on a google search. The string says (in spanish) "enviando peticion a www.google.com.gt..." I was searching for "planet suse" and so far it has been like that for about 15 minutes and counting. Ithink the string in english would be "sending request to www.google.com.gt..."

Too bad, I was hoping for server name completion working properly again, but obviously it doesn't :frown:
WRT the link: hmm, which feature of pubsuffix is meant (or a different one)?

Avoid privacy-damaging "supercookies" being set for high-level domain name suffixes
Highlight the most important part of a domain name in the user interface
Accurately sort history entries by site

  • MeanEYE30. April 2010, 18:06

Opera still doesn't remember  window state.
Font issues but that's nothing new...

    Ubuntu Lucid (i386)
  • Jose Ricardo De Leon30. April 2010, 18:09

Oh and flash doesn't seem to be working well in opera. I have issues clicking buttons in facebook apps and in www.as.com; they all work in Firefox 3.5.9

Can confirm. Having the same problem on http://www.extrafilm.be/default.aspx

Someone I don't remember who, suggested that lowering the number of max connections in the network preferences solved some NSL problems.

Oh Yayyyy...Finally. You guys rock. You have given me enough reason to cheer. First the Ubuntu 10.04...as a "macstatic performance"..and then to top it all..Opera beta.

Give us a shiny new final release soon and I'd bathe you guys in free beer.
