Glyphs and plugins

November 28, 2011 · by Tommy A. Olsen

Our hardware acceleration work is marching on, and we have now integrated a round of fixes for a bunch of bugs in this area, as well as the fixes we have on 11.60.

Some of the most notable fixes on hardware acceleration:

  • Plugins should now paint in the correct places when scrolling
  • Dropdown menus on Windows XP don't flicker that badly anymore
  • Bold hebrew text on Mac should now display properly
  • Several crash fixes
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Only on Gentoo (and derivatives) with certain video drivers, yes. It is and always has been fine on other distros.
  • wannadanceMonday, November 28, 2011 5:00:24 PM

Smooth scrolling still needs some work, especially if there are a lot of images and embed videos on page .
  • GalnospokeMonday, November 28, 2011 5:04:12 PM

VERY good build. No BSOD in YouTube/flash like all 11.6x. Good work!

    Little problems:
    1) Dropdown menus on Windows XP don't flicker that badly anymore - no at all on AMD Radeon!
    2) little blur on fonts with HWA.
  • ricksperMonday, November 28, 2011 5:05:39 PM

Maximized window obscures the Windows Task Bar on occasion. In order to view the Task Bar I have to minimize the window then re-maximize it again. This has been happening on all 12.00 builds and can't be replicated at will.

    Is this known?
    Win XP SP3

{EDIT] OK I see krychu90 reports similar issue.
  • ArsenytarcMonday, November 28, 2011 5:07:21 PM

I dont know how to explain it.. but..
If I type some words into search address bar (some part of visited URLs) Until now still sort URLs by last visited but now it is sorted by name??
for me it is a huge bug.. and a lot of problems.. now it is worst that before..
confirmations? Can I reactivated old sorting?
  • Patkos CsabapatkoscsabaMonday, November 28, 2011 5:15:05 PM

I do not know if you tried to optimize the hardware rendering or not, but on my Linux machine it is still very slow. It takes about 2 sec for the "new tab" animation to finish, scrolling is very slow also. Could not really try any webgl site/stuff yet, it creashes almost all the time!

However, in software rendering it is very stable.

Linux 64 bits, Mandriva 2011, KDE 4.6.x, opengl effects in KDE started, video Nvidia 8600GT, driver 280.13

I'm having some troubles with text still. I just formated and installed Fedora 16...Happened in 15 as well, but was hoping a clean start might solve the issue.
I'm having text vanish..If I disable HWA, then all the text comes back.

I also had some troubles with imageshack..It took a long time (Maybe 2 minutes) to open the upload window...

please.. tell me that it is only issue and all will be good in next version..
(a first problem with pages is posted here: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/38097852#comment75807872 )
thank you.. Maybe I have another question.. Why did you did this with Opera? sad
