Hardware acceleration fixes
This is the first snapshot after Opera 12 Alpha. A big thank you goes out to everyone who joined us on the far side of software development and installed the Alpha release of Opera 12. Your feedback has been invaluable.
When it comes to hardware acceleration, we're currently in a state of code cleanup and optimization, so there will not be many big changes coming in this area in the next weeks. This builds has a couple of very important fixes though, first among them is plugging a big memory leak on Windows.
Anyone running Opera 12 Alpha are strongly encouraged to upgrade to the build linked below.

- Code cleanup and optimizations
- Plugged a huge memory leak on Windows, and a smaller one on Mac
- Several updates to blocklists. Note that many changes are continuously pushed through autoupdate, so you probably have these changes already
- - Blocking use of hardware acceleration on NVIDIA Quadro NVS (bad performance)
- - Blocking use of hardware acceleration on NVIDIA FX/PCX series (buggy driver version detection prevented blocking of the too old driver)
- - Blocking use of 3D hardware acceleration (WebGL) on Intel GMA 3000 (bad performance)
- - Added fallback rule for unknown chipsets on Windows as well, should block things like VMWare
- Fixed ex value parsing on Mac, fixes many odd errors where things go missing on websites like reddit
- Made "Minimal restart" in crashlog UI work again
- Improved flash rendering on Mac
- Fixed crash when closing tabs with "dimmed" dialogs

DID this memory leak exist in the Software Vega backend?
Thanks for the improved opera:gpu page.

Also on changing of theme, I got this on the error output :
QPainter::begin: Paint device returned engine == 0, type: 2
QPainter::setCompositionMode: Painter not active
QPainter::end: Painter not active, aborted

It's a wee bit more responsive now that i've restricted it to the second core of my CPU (Process Explorer ftw)
HWA is disabled ("old" driver apparently, even though it's newer than the latest official one for my GPU (GeForce Go 7600; modded 190.62 versus 179.48 official), on Server2008 R2 (x64), but that's not a big issue for me right now.

But i don't have Hardware acceleration on Windows 8, on the same hardware on Ubuntu 11.10 it works well

EDIT - sorry, my fault. The problem still occurs. I just should have been more patient... (WinXP, 32 bit, EEEPC)

Does not mean not very many snapshots, or not very many HWA focused snaphots?
I'm really keen to see some mail fixes...

but the inputlags persist in this version. i experience the worst ones while clicking somewhere (menu, new tab...), using shortcuts works faster.

This snapshot has been godly for me. No memory leaks and low CPU usage using Windows + ATI 5700 series.
No garbled text and performance has been fast! Haven't done any benchmarks yet but I'm a happy camper here

For me this always was one of the key metrics to measure apparent browsing speed. Accelerating the way opera does definitely is the way forward!
I hope the 'enable WebGL' setting in opera:config allows to disable only webgl acceleration, as I'm rather wary of exposing OpenGL API to websites (if you feel using Adobe and Java plugins isn't enough of a security risk, definitely enable WebGL too!).

1. The browser occupies the whole screen at the start. It covers the Windows taskbar, which I have at the top of the desktop. Restoring and maximizing again solves the issue, but... annoying.
2. With hardware acceleration enabled, the whole browser window (not only the pages, but the chrome, menu and dialog font, everything) gets progressively blurrier. At first everything appears clear, and then the image quality degrades without user intervention, until it's all foggy.
3. With hardware acceleration enabled, the browser is veeeeery slow. Almost unresponsive.
