Mail crash fixes and Ragnarök (HTML5 parser) update

November 8, 2011 · by Alexey

Hi! My name is Alexey, I'm new QA here, and today, only a week after I joined the famous Desktop Team, I was given the honor of posting on this blog. I'm native Russian speaker, so below is my introduction for all Russian-speaking users.

The highlights in this build include a number of fixes for issues introduced after our recent Mail update and our new HTML5 parser (Ragnarök) has been updated with various bug fixes. We have added a speculative tokenization step to load external resources while waiting for scripts. These changes should improve performance, particularly when using Turbo.

To all who want to comment (in Russian) about Opera unload bug: see topic in Russian Forum, please.

Alexey.

Anton Diaz,

Great work I love the mail updates and the text selection cursor.
Turbo has not been that good for me in the past looking forward to testing it. smile
  • MaximSailorMaxTuesday, November 8, 2011 7:30:44 PM

These snapshots are like buses: you wait ages for one and then they all come along at once!

Nice to see some new people on the Opera team and some continued hard work in every area of the browser.

Due to all the the Russian text, one add-on I found useful is https://addons.opera.com/en/addons/extensions/details/in-place-translator/1.11/?display=en lol p Otherwise I can't understand the comments..

@Charlie Clark - haha @ the bus comment, so true..

Welcome to Opera new developers smile

I can't set file priority in uTorrent webgui in this build.
  • Ruarí ØdegaardruarioTuesday, November 8, 2011 7:40:51 PM

@AntonDiaz: It is not enough that it happens. We really need more precise steps of how to reproduce from a clean setup. What exactly do you do to get in that state?

@SailorMax: memguard is now built into Opera.

P.S. @SailorMax, @Spectrumx, @AntonDiaz, etc.: A quick reply to Alexey is fine but if you want to write detailed feedback in Russian please use the Russian forums. Alexey will be looking there as well.

@13-beta2: Re-read http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2011/11/04/opera-11-60 This is just temporary. We'll bring back 12.00 snapshots soon.
  • alexl1984Tuesday, November 8, 2011 7:43:33 PM

Will these 11.60 fixes also be rolled into 12.00 builds once you start doing wahoo snaps again?

@Petrus, how slow the computer should be?

    @Михаил, ok, will check soon.

    @Ruarí, thanks for help! smile

Thank you for noticing the comment. Unfortunately, the bug is unstable and is found too late (after a few hours since Opera closed). So it difficult to trace patterns. But I will try to take more info.

Not for 11.60. And discussions about future features shouldn't be here. Use Desktop wish-list.

Can anyone confirm a crash on http://miketaylr.com/pres/capjs/demo/contenthandler.html ?
You may need a few tries. Start Opera and open that site. If it doesn't crash restart Opera and try again. Here i can regular crash Opera with it.
I already tried a clean usb-install. A bunch of crash logs are submitted with the last three builds.

Showing some love for the Russian users! Cute! up

I noticed that you're updating some translation strings (on your changelogs) and I reported some long-lasting Brazilian Portuguese translation errors as DSK-349946. I hope you can update it someday.

one Question: does the fact that editing the mail signature suggest there are going to be changes related to signatures? (edit: apart of fixing the issue, that is)

And please: when Ruario or Havaard post on the Destop Team Blog would someone bother answering in Norwegian? Same with Dutch and Rits or German for Manooh?

Please keep comments english so we can read and participate...

maybe this should be used as the new "First!" comment: "the verge is probably still pretty much unusable with this build!" well maybe that comment is too long to get a first in the end p

Dont know if it was mentioned in the post in which the new mail design was introduced but when you read a feed ( overview of all feeds ) you dont have any clue too which feed it belongs.

In the old design the link which now is not written as url
    http://s7.directupload.net/file/d/2702/9p8z7he3_jpg.htm
was a good hint to see where it belongs.

At least somewhere at the top there should be stated the name of the feed ( if you actually can enable that the name of the feed is shown there then someone can give me a hint...)
