*NIX family focus

June 3, 2010 · by Daniel Aleksandersen

I hope all of you aren’t tired of testing just yet. Because mere hours after releasing the previous one, here is yet another Opera snapshot (YAOS) for testing!

For Mac, we have fixed a significant SVG drawing/animation regression from Peregrine, and optimized the start-up sequence to make it faster. Two crashers introduced with 10.60 Alpha 1 have also been fixed.

For FreeBSD and Linux, we have numerous font fixes, improvements to X11 mode, and the KDE file selector freeze is fixed.

Known issues
  • The User Agent states two different Presto versions
  • Icon replacements for internal pages are stretched in the tab hover previews
  • Web fonts not working on Mac
  • Java is not working on FreeBSD/Linux
  • IME is not working on FreeBSD/Linux

WARNING: This is a development snapshot of Opera. It is released for testing purposes, and there may be serious bugs and unfinished features.

Yes! I barely got time to try the previous snapshot as I just installed it a few minutes ago and now a new one with some nicer bug fixes. :D
  • YongShun3. June 2010, 14:32

    Very very fast indeed
  • Lukáš Bart!3. June 2010, 14:34

Daniel, can you please look at this page:

    http://www.kinosiska.si/

Is it Opera's fault? It crashes.

    Win7x64.
  • Jaywin Jacob Varghese3. June 2010, 14:53

Unable to scroll to bottom of print preview.

At this rate Opera will be the first browser to have 100% SVG support .

Also thanks for fixing some irritating bugs (DSK-294940!).

After some time of work in KDE tray when mouse on opera icon I see this:

    http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/4074/vlcsnap2010060318h08m48.png

    In 6346 build I didn't see this.
  • sergiol3. June 2010, 15:18

    Still asking for two things:

    1. Search engine suggestions
    2. Autocomplete

what have Opera guys against those features? every other major browser has them.

Opera gains competitive advantage in some very complex things, and in things so simple as these two they loose it. So strange ...
  • Besmir Godole3. June 2010, 15:24

One of the best Linux builds: thank you for the font fixes and others. Another irritating bug is the weird corner around the drop-down lists, for example, http://files.myopera.com/bgodole/files/Modeli.png
  • Kai Ockendorf3. June 2010, 15:25

wow...thanks for the hard work
  • Rui Costa3. June 2010, 15:26

Opera is much faster now  However it still freezes momentarily when I try to open a new window (Ctrl+N) :frown:

And before someone says it's my computer, someone else was complaining about it too a while ago.

    Windows 7 64-bit
  • Annihilator6663. June 2010, 15:27

    Opera 10.60 ANY BUILD!

Opera 10.54 and earlier versions normal...
  • Taxidriver053. June 2010, 15:28

    Hmmm...

Still the same issue with www.liveside.net and other Microsoft-Related sites, that use video players...

If they are written with Silverlight, there might be some issue using Silverlight.

My system: Windows 7 Professional (x64)

Very nice and fast build, but (I know i said it hundred times....) Flash still isn't working on openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 7(a.k.a Factory). More details here: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=559301&t=1275319086&page=1#comment5680202
I appreciate your work guys, but this bug makes problems-almost all sites have now Flash elements. :frown:
  • abhitux3. June 2010, 15:37

Woooohooo! Ruari and his Opera Linux team rocks! The small issues have been fixed. My apostrophe works! Yeah. The mail and RSS reader though is still giving a headache. The "unread" feeds default to "read" which needs to be fixed with next version. Otherwise, the random crashes with the previous builds has been fixed.

    (I am using Ubuntu 10.04).

Keep up the good work guys. Finally the *nix users are getting their worth...

Wow Thank You. 2x snapshot a day. Impressive...

About that *nix focus, well after months of development now you've decided to focus on long overdue *nix OK... , that is belated a bit one might say....

And this short quotation from yesterday for comic relief:

"For Unix users, this obviously means that there will be no 10.5x version. However, we are aiming for synchronizing the 10.60 release across all platforms."

Aiming... hehehe. Good one. You got me, no kidding.

NEVER never use the word tired....it doesn't suit me.....infact i am very very happy you have released a version and that too with memory consumption fix....:D :D

p.s i always love beta testing...and hate stable releases
  • eliotcougar3. June 2010, 16:06

CORE-30259 (Text selection removed on right clicking)

    Yay!!! Quoting works again...
I just wonder what does "CORE-30317 (Excessive memory consumption (>1.5 GB))" fix mean... Does that mean Opera now doesn't try to keep very long .flv files entirely in memory cache while playing them?..

Me too... Using stable releases is no fun... Too boring... No bugs...

Opera still doesn't feel integrated in KDE:

    http://files.myopera.com/blurpy/albums/3406192/konqueror_opera_meny.png

The white color on the font on mouse over, and the square corners are wrong. Look at Konqueror for how it should look.

Using KDE 4.3.5 in OpenSUSE 11.2.
  • Olli3. June 2010, 16:15

    You're insane, 2 snapshots in a few hours!!:yikes: :yikes:
  • PraetorianX3. June 2010, 16:16

Some videos in moddb still don't play. This has been present ever since early 10.50 builds.
However it works with Opera 10.10.

I´ve noticed too much "flash of unstyled content" in the 10.60 builds on some pages! It´s the only thing what bothers me at the moment...:right:

This happens if you set Wrapping mode for tab bar - wrap to multiple lines, and if the Opera window is not maximized...
  • minho3. June 2010, 16:22

Here is a grotesque problem with Gmail. This problem only happens with messages that have multiple conversations, and is occurring since the previous build. It is unfortunate that the Opera has so many problems with sites so popular.

Opera 10.60 is definitely faster than the previous builds ... BUT.. i came across this browser called Sunrise and it is supposed to be based on WebKit. Pages definitely load much faster on that browser... for example, typing srubs in the address bar brings the google search result like in a flash and then clicking the link to the wikipedia again brings the page in a flash. In opera, the wikipedia page takes at least 5 seconds to completely show up!

I WANT Opera to beat every browser out there!

btw, this is on Mac (Snow Leopard)
