Opera 11.00 Release Candidate 1
Thanks to the heavy testing being performed both internally at Opera, and by all of you eager testers out there, we now have a very good overview of the quality level of Opera 11.0.
In fact, we have now reached a stage where Opera 11.0 is mature enough to be prepared for a final release.
Our improved development process the past year or so has allowed us to work on more things simultaneously, while at the same time keeping a stable main branch. So when public builds have seemed crashy, that has usually been the result of unstable/experimental feature and/or bug fix branches being added separately to form a snapshot (informally referred to as Frankenstein Builds or Frankenbuilds in the team), rather than making the main release branch unstable. After proper testing, features and fixes are added back to the main branch. This is the reason why one cannot judge the quality of a final release based on previous snapshots.
At this point, less severe bugs will have to wait for a future version, but we definitely want to make sure there isn't anything major preventing the release. We are particularly interested in bigger problems affecting tab stacking, extensions, and the new mail panel or Windows installer. And although our improved development process helps to prevent regressions on the main release branch, we still want to know about any regressions you may find, and particularly ones that could potentially block a release.
So if anyone discovers any major new bugs in this release candidate, let us know! And if you don't, we might just be ready to get this release out the door fairly soon with your help.
Note: As this is a Release Candidate, the installation folder will default to the latest stable installation folder.

Tab stacking: It looks like betwen 1148 and 1149 auto tab stacking has disappeared in favor of only manual stacking. And I was finally getting used to having the new tab set up next to the current one. That's something I do like a lot.

I'm unsure why the scrollbar for the panels is like it is. It's true that early screenshots for Lion show something like that, but it's best to use the present native scrollbar and not slap together something that resembles something that'll be in an OS update a year from now.

- Mouse gestures are still not working consistently and nicely as in the 10.6x line, and for the pre-Gesture assistant builds.
1. Need to sometimes repeat gestures several times to get them to work
2. The wrong gesture is read sometimes
3. Smaller strokes on the gesture are often ignored
*Please* can we have gestures back like they used to be?
- Tab stacking is working better but it would be nice to have the option to configure auto-stacking. It seems to be off again by default (although it's behaved like it's "on" a few times - bug?). For research-style browsing this is really useful, although as a default behaviour it should really be disabled.
- Switching between tabs in a stack with ctrl+tab causes a tab-bar redraw behaviour that's a little disconcerting. Perhaps it's just a taste thing; i think the idea is to visualise that one tab has replaced another in the stack, but with a number of other tabs, the stack seems to grow and shrink
- I'm seeing graphical glitches and noise in the stacked-tab preview thumbnails on occasion. It seems that the (stack) thumbnails are generated as a function of window size - if I resize the opera window, the thumbnails change their "zoom". This looks like a bug.
- Speeddial page is skewing thumnails upon resize. Maybe the aspect (4x3 or 16x10) should be a config option, and the speedial should stick to it.
- Still printing and print preview are not working properly (font and word spacing skewed, incorrect layout, and inability to view the whole page from preview). Will this ever be fixed?
Nice to see that most of the tab stacking annoyances have been fixed, but please take a look at mouse gestures before release.
Keep up the good work!
Seb

You're crazy
Bug: new tab from last page in stack opens outside of stack when "Open new tab next to active" is turned on. I hope it will be fixed and it is not "correct behaviour".
Serious bug: mouse gestures not fixed. They working worser than in Firefox now and it's ridiculous. I will not Upgrade to 11 final if they will not be fixed to excellent Opera 10.6 condition. They're that's much for me.

Popup thumbnails for tabs still don't disappear if you don't hover over something that causes a hover effect (eg links)
Caption buttons stick in hover state when it's maximised and you move to 2nd monitor
Inconsistent switching to last active tab: Open 1 tab (we'll call it A) and then open 4 background tabs (B, C, D, E). *Minimise* tab A and D will become active, *close* tab D and B will become active.

BUG:
Skins aren't automatically updated
René-Gilles Deberdt14. December 2010, 21:45
- "Set as default" was checked when I launched the installer. I always verify this and it's always unchecked. My Opera is set to default already and I don't like when installers try to mess with my settings.
- Once again, my tab stacks were all gone, except for the first one, when upgrading from rev 1140 to rev 1149.
- And once again, it crashed soon after I started rebuilding my stacks.
I'm not going to spend my entire night working it out. It doesn't work, it doesn't work. Hopefully you guys will figure it out before Gold is out. I would be devastated if it wasn't the case.

1. Pinned tabs are to difficult to hit when just being a favicon. I want the option to turn them back into regular sized tabs
2. The skin I use, Kyle Bakers great Ambiance skin for Ubuntu, sadly doesn't work with the new tab stacking. It should be added that I use a slightly older version without the colorful icons and that the newest version may work with it.
These two are real deal-breakers. Sadly you can only fix the one. Kyle, maybe you could fix the other?

Is there a plan to fix the Flash issues before the official release? I'm still not able to play the following FB game:
http://apps.facebook.com/prizeorama/
This is actually a game we developed and I wonder if the issue is that it uses the new FB graph API... Maybe?
We have a second game which also uses the same API and it is also failing:
http://apps.facebook.com/sendhappythoughts/
BTW, the error says that Flash is not installed but it is... I am able to run the games from IE and Firefox on the same machine (and am able to run other flash games from Opera).
Thanks!
Pierre

1. Set the tab closing behavior to activate the last used tab.
2. Put 2-3 tabs in a stack.
3. Focus the second to last tab in the stack.
4. Focus the last tab in the stack and close it. The newly focused tab should now be the last one in the stack.
5. Press Ctrl+Z to restore the closed tab. The restored tab appears to the right of the stack with the expander arrow to its right, but the stack border doesn't include it and the tab isn't in the stack.
hheck14. December 2010, 22:02
If anyone else noticed this, is this an expected change? If so, how do I undo it. It's ugly.
micsk14. December 2010, 22:03
Also: Why isn't the space for tabs used mor efficiently?
See: http://min.us/mvsLfL
Is it an OS issue?
Edit: Thanks for adding the Opera-badge, e.g. for opera:config.
What I always wondered regarding opera:config - why aren't there any help entries (clicking the ?-icon)? Would it be possible to let the community add them?
