Opera 11.01 RC1

January 25, 2011 · by Ruarí Ødegaard

The build you have all been waiting for, Opera 11.01 RC1. Let us know what you think.

As we are very close to release now we are only interested in regressions from the 11.00 final, so please do not post messages about other bugs here. If you want to discuss other bugs please do so in our forums. All further work will be going into a future version of Opera.

Thanks for testing!

As a side note, I updated the UNIX and FreeBSD snapshot download package icons. If you want to discuss that please do not do it here. However feel free to use my blog post.

11.01 has been rock solid here, very hard to break things. I also wipes Chrome 10 dev builds in the dirt with regards to performance.

When hardware accel arrives, it's going to be so far out in front it's not true.... I'm hoping that Opera launch their hardware accel dev build on Firefox 4 launch day :-)

Because it's an RC which should be final quality and they probably don't want any/to much changes between the "last not final" and final (because the chance on regressions) This may also explain the quality of 11.00 final, with that many fixes in the RCs there had to be some regressions in the final, which weren't there before the RCs (the right click + scroll bug with compositing on Linux for example...)

Big regression. Any forum topic of the neowin forums keeps refreshing.
  • netwolf25. January 2011, 17:10

    Can't install this snapshot:

"An unexpected error occurred while attempting to install Opera! Error code: 89"

Never ever had anything similar before...
    (using Win7x64).

    Any ideas, or help?
    What is this error 89?
  • rseiler25. January 2011, 17:11

I'm seeing the refreshing issue on other sites too, like with articles on nytimes.com, ew.com, and slickdeals.net. I thought it was me, but then I did a test install and saw the same thing. Once the page refreshes, you can usually hit the back arrow to go "back" to the loaded page, even though that would normally take you back to the previous page.

I rarely have to do this, but this forces me back to the last build.

I am not entirely certain that this is a valid exploit. There have been issues with "vulnerabilities" reported by Vupen in the past...
  • Francisco Herrera25. January 2011, 17:28

Nice, i've been getting lots of ramdom crashes lately, hope this build fix them.

Not possible...? GMail works fine here, both normally and in private tab. Are you using any extensions? And what is your OS type and default language?

Took several clicks, but it finally started happening for me too (XP-SP3). I will see if this happens on any of my frequently visited sites.

Also, I discovered today that Ctrl-Shift-V is still broken if the address bar has focus (Pastes link, but opens in background tab). However, if the address bar is not focused, Ctrl-Shift-V will paste-n-go in the current tab. This is a nice discovery, but Ctrl-Shift-V is normally used from the Speed Dial, where it does NOT work at this time.
  • D1sasterp1ece25. January 2011, 17:41

I consider this to be a regression, it appears in this build as well and it would be sad for it to go in the final.

Confirmed. But installed anyway, and I haven't found anything broken so far.

    Thanks for confirmation.
Though after reading the comments here (constant page refresh and no to little fixes) I guess I'll gladly skip this one, and really really hope that they won't make it a final...

Can someone do me a favour and confirm this bug?

    Go here
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/49400/

    And click on "Download demo".

    This should appear.
    http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1262/sshot20110125175452.png

It didn't work before v11. It was fixed in v11 only to be broken again on the first build after 11 final. It's still broken apparently.
Originally reported as bug DSK-321679 in December. Reported again as DSK-326680.

It happens the same whether it's downloading a demo or downloading a game you bought.

Also, would you please default the installer to "English" ?!

Noob q: To properly test this for regressions in respect to 11.0f - is it ok to install on top of last snapshot? Or should one make a separate install?

CORRECTION: The cause of this was today's browser.js, not today's build. I thought I accounted for this earlier, but browser.js was updated on my test install when I wasn't looking.

Confirmed. I still use build 1164 and with new browser.js I had this refresh issue too.

In the previous build in extensions the widget object was accessible also in injected scripts. Will the final 11.01 include this feature? Because this build doesn't.

The Google Calendar crashes seem to have been fixed. Good job!

@Ferris I agree that Google Docs spreadsheets have some serious spacing problems. This is however not a regression from 11.00.

Yes, in this RC1, I'm seeing all NYT articles being redirected to a "non-exist" page with a "load" suffix on the URL. Click on any article link, the correct page laods for 2-3 seconds, then gets redirected.
