Opera 11.01 RC2

January 26, 2011 · by Ruarí Ødegaard

This is a second Release Candidate for Opera 11.01 final. Please test it. There are further crash fixes and we fixed some issues with installer errors on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

This snapshot has been placed on the Windows and Mac auto-update server. We'd appreciate feedback on how that works for you. Remember however that you will need to enable opera:config#AutoUpdate|DownloadAllSnapshots. wink

Bugs that are not regressions between 11.00 and 11.01 or auto-update related should be discussed in our forums or logged. If you post them below they will be ignored and may be removed.

Note: Auto-update will not be available until 25 minutes after this post goes live.

Thanks for testing!

Is this an update for every 11.00 installation or only when you have "Download all snapshots" enabled?

Regression from Opera 11: I can no longer log in to Outlook WebAccess Light. After filling in name and password I get a download popup for "owaauth.dll". This was also a problem in RC1 but worked in some earlier 11+ snapshots.

I've doublecheck with A separate Opera 11 install on the same host, and that still works.

    Windows 7 64bit.

Yeah, but my family also uses Opera, on Windows, so it's nice to know if they get an update or not. And because of my study (software engineering, mostly in C#) I'm also a regular Windows user.

I'm waiting for some more interesting snapshots smile These "boring" ones aren't meant for me, give me some new features and I will update immediately bigsmile Otherwise I only update when I have some spare time and I remember I still have to update (ATM i'm still running 1160, so from the beginning of January)

    Edit:
Who's silently updating my comments? jester Thanks to the great history navigation of Opera I'm sure the "probably asking for a friend" part wasn't there when I quoted the text whistle

Edit [ruario]: You caught me. I edited mine and you wrote yours at the same time. You're post is back to the original except for these funny edit comments, which you are free to remove.

    Thanks!
  • Daniel26. January 2011, 12:57

While checking Torrent-Files, Opera generates a very high RAM-Usage of about 99%. Windows 7 x64.
This bug also exists in 11.00 Final.

After checking those Files, the RAM-Usage decreases immediately
  • Luca26. January 2011, 13:02

Xp sp3 always the problem with logging in GMAIL.. only the basic mode can log in.

Dunno if it's a problem of deleting some files from the opera folder like a user said in the last RC but i hope it will be solved in the final installation... :|

i repeat i've already tried without extensions and clearing private data but nothing to do T_T

    Mod edit: Noise removed.
  • Shaffe26. January 2011, 13:04

I've check the download all snapshot in opera:config, but Opera tells me that I'm up to date, which is not true. What should I do ?
  • AndrewLow26. January 2011, 13:05

I've never had "opera:config#AutoUpdate|DownloadAllSnapshots" set on on, thus I don't know if has ever worked for me, but I enabled when the post came out, I restarted Opera and one minute ago I checked for updates and it said "You are using the latest version of Opera.". Well, I'll download it and test it smile

If this matters, I'm using a stand-alone installation

    EDIT: now it works smile
EDIT2: It did a really strange thing: it downloaded and then I installed it, but it didn't ask where to install it (I mean, there was no Option page, it started to install itself with no confirmation) and it installed somewhere else, it hasn't updated the Opera which I used to download the update. And now, if I check for updates, it finds nothing

Do you have browserjs enabled? (check here) It should be, because of a core(?) bug in Function.bind() which makes GMail unusable. Browserjs has a "workaround" for this (AFAIK it just acts as there isn't any Function.bind() support)

Wait another 10 minutes "Note: Auto-update will not be available until 25 minutes after this post goes live."

    Edit:
Whoops, those 10 minutes where an hour ago whistle
  • Gunnar Boman Rinde26. January 2011, 13:06

    @Shaffe.

I'm getting the same problem. I'm using 11.01 RC1 on Windows XP SP3.

Yes, it happened to me as well in previous builds, now i'm checking whether it happens for this build too

EDIT: yes, this bug is in this build as well, and I'm rather sure this wasn't in 11 final
  • Kamalesh26. January 2011, 13:21

I install snapshots into an "Opera11x" folder, while final releases are in the normal APP folder.

When "checking for update", I'm getting "Can't validate file" error msg. "All snapshots" is enabled in :config. Is this expected if trying to auto-update from a folder that is not APPLICATIONS...?

Just tried installing this RC through auto-update on Windows 7 with Opera installed in a user folder (no admin rights on the computer). Worked fine! smile

WOW! That's serious! I just did a quick check and I have NO mails going to their "Mail for" indexes since the 12th of January! yikes Edit: wonder if that's why I've been getting a lot of random crashes recently which all note the mail window being open in the crash report... sherlock
  • Patkos Csaba26. January 2011, 13:31

Installed on MAC ... looks OK.
  • pursanovd26. January 2011, 13:31

Windows 7 x64, Opera auto-updated well, but i had to check for updates manually..Can't it check automatically on, lets say, startup? Because periods of checking are too long by default (once in 3 days). BY the way! Another nice thing: in opera:config "?" -are working at last! Thats very nice interactive documentation feature!
  • Eric26. January 2011, 13:46

The update was only detected after explicitly asking to check for a new build this time, but I had the option checked... 10 builds ago after talking in an Opera IRC discussion a month ago. But it did detect, downloaded and successfully apply a snapshot bigsmile FINALLY! As Firefox 4b10 Win64 Nightly snapshots all have been applying great lately so its nice seeing Opera have success on this front too.
Thanks! and Im still crossing my fingers for a x64 plug-in container to use 64-bit Flash if no native x64 Opera is planned p

    Stylesheets not loaded at
    https://addons.opera.com/addons/extensions/
I see the page in text mode (yes, I have checked if it is set to author mode, cleaned the cache etc. pp.). Works fine in RC1 and 11.0

    Anyone else?

    XPSP3

    edit:

No bug, no regression - I had JS off and now i looked into the source bigeyes
It would have been nice to get a warning that apart from the basic.css all other static stylesheets are loaded by JavaScript. Doesn't look like best practice in web-design to me.

Update went fine, from RC1 to RC2.
The "New Opera Version Available" dialog showed a small background coloring problem:
    http://ompldr.org/vNzVxbA/color.jpg
When initially shown, the color is OK. The white background is only visible after scrolling down.
  • stefan-cl26. January 2011, 14:15

I just tested the new opera 11.01 on this system:
Ubuntu 10.04 i386 with lots of free memory available.
I've also created an aditional opera preferences directory(-pd), so not to inherit any "bad" stuff from the previous version.(I'm using 9.64)
The problem is that it still fails to open web pages when I have multiple tabs opened.
I've used the autosave.win session file from opera 9.64. It has 91 tabs.
While opera 9.64 opens all tabs fine, opera 11.01 fails to load all tabs !
I can refer you to the thread in the opera forums that I've started a while back, haven't had any replies from Opera for a while now:
    http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=852392&t=1295002018&page=1
Please please please fix this bug, I love opera and it would be a shame to be forced to switch to another browser just for this issue.
