Opera 12.01 security and stability release

August 1, 2012 · by olli

Hey
We have today released 12.01 which is a recommended security update.
We have also been able to fix a mix of regular bugs, crashers, freezers, and a bad nsl issue where Opera suddenly runs out of connections.

We have also fixed a couple of security issues.
Thanks for all the help testing out these fixes guys!!

Watch it in 12.01 though, with Marlin you'll find it problematic

Updated using auto-update - Windows XP. Nice work.

Looking forward to Opera 12.50 and waiting for Opera 12.02 to fix DSK-370931 [HTML5DND], DSK-369020 [HTML5DND] and some mentioned by other people in the RC2 post comments.

I still have very slow text input in all text fields in Opera, and almost all text fields on webpages with a few exceptions. This started with 12.00. At that point I cleaned out all opera references I could find in OS X 10.7.4 and reinstalled. I call for an official guide to how to cleanly uninstall Opera in OS X and reinstall it. This bug is very annoying.

edit: I discovered that this is somehow related to a large (1.3 MB) bookmarks file. Is this to be expected with a file of this size, and why is it related in the first place?
  • Ide StoutjesdijkThursday, August 2, 2012 8:44:28 AM

    Even outlook.com works now!

Really appreciated everyone, and a full fix for Outlook virtually 36 hours after anyone noticed any problems. Beat that Chrome (Lol)
Brilliant Opera, have wonderful holidays everyone

We had to patch it using browser.js, it was not a bug in Opera AFAIK
  • Mimis Mum (MM)Thursday, August 2, 2012 9:04:01 AM

BTW The Site Patching Team has also updated their browser.js

Target version and time stamp of the active browser.js file is Opera Desktop 12.01 core 2.10.289, August 1, 2012. Active patches: 223

Update yours by going to Menu > Help > Check for update. Check your version at http://www.opera.com/docs/browserjs/

    Kind time of the day!
Try to change date (by arrows or calendar).
    http://www.discoverychannel.ru/tv-listings
I see a blank page when Opera works as usual.
When Opera works as "turbo", I really can change the date and the TV-program too.
    Opera 12.01. Vista x32.
    Something wrong with my preferences?
  • KurtThursday, August 2, 2012 10:21:25 AM

No, by browser.js (Opera sitepatching team)

Oh interesting... Sorry for the noob question: this can be done without updating Opera?

Congrats Opera, for a succesful release of 12.01.

Nice fixes, they were really needed, but unfortunately, Opera 12.00 is still feeling as a regression over 11,6x, so have your well deserved vacation, and then start working on 12.02, to iron out as many bugs as you can.

The faster you can catch up to the competition, the faster you can start leading again. Cheers

(awaiting the next build to post more bugs I found - here's to hoping it's not 12.50)

So you mean it's a Microsoft fault and I can safely ask at Microsoft forums without having to think about asking to forgive me later if it turns out to be an Opera Core bug?
  • theredgiantThursday, August 2, 2012 11:36:34 AM

    Is Bug DSK-366467 fixed?

@Ukito1: I too feel the sessions should show the tabs/URLs saved within each session.

Can you do the same with 12.50? Please? It's my primary browser.

Edit: Oh, it works now! But I think it's a little slower compared to IE.

The status of Browser.js file is determined by the value of "var bjsversion" in the browser.js file.

For, example by browser.js file in 12.01 says:

    var bjsversion=' Opera Desktop 12.01 core 2.10.289, August 1, 2012. Active patches: 223 ';

Apparently a small mistake by the browser.js team.

Completely froze a brand new MacBook running Mountain Lion 10.8 when I initially open it Uninstalled and tried it again, no go. Has 12.01 even been tested on Mountain Lion.
