Opera finding new ways into your Mac
Apple yesterday approved Opera as the first non-Safari clone Web browser into their Mac App Store.
The Desktop Team is very pleased with this new distribution channel that enables us to reach even more and new users on the Mac platform.
It looks like Opera has been well received already, but make sure to post your review of Opera in the Mac App Store as well.
Opera is available for free through the Mac App Store or directly from our Web site.

I laso note the "Opera first browser available in Apple's Mac App Store"
It's kinda amazing for Apple, not to have allowed "concurrence" sooner.
The age restriction is just.... speechless-ing

Not bad for a browser without the marketing might of Google/Apple/Microsoft... Perhaps people are waking up that just because a product has bottomless reserves of cash poured into marketing it, does not necessarily make it the best product available...

I doubt it, because in the worst case you can install gcc and compile most of the OSS apps for MacOS, so I see no point in doing that. Thou, knowing Apple, nothing is impossible.

In fact, why is there even an age restriction? What are they restricting? I haven't noticed anything that a child shouldn't see...I'm confused. :L

It looks like they removed the update UI in this build and opera:config has autoupdates disabled, so we can expect Opera updates coming from the app store. Makes sense.

IIANM, that was the only change that needed to be made to the functionality to get approval. Makes sense indeed, having two update mechanisms active at the same time is asking for trouble...
