Performance improvements for 11.62 (Tunny)
It's Thursday and time for another 11.62 snapshot. The most interesting change here is DSK-357882 which we believe will improve performance, particularly for high latency sites.
Tips to make it easier to test and give feedback:

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.
Download
-
Compare against 11.61, not 12.00
(use the install instructions in the links below to install alongside stable Opera) -
Delete cache before comparing
(otherwise you might be comparing cached and non-cached content) -
Test multiple times and ignore minor differences
(the nature of the internet means there will always be some fluctuation) -
We are only interested in faster or slower
(loading at roughly the same speed is not a problem) -
Mention your location and the page you tested against when giving feedback
(websites hosted in the same country as you will tend to have lower latency)

Loading was considerably faster for both batoto and espnstar. But as for gmail, it had problems loading the site for the 1st time in each trial. It definitely took more than 5s just to load. It was down to just less than a second on subsequent accesses, which was still faster than 11.61. Located in the Philippines
(w7x86).
Just to be sure, Inefficient loading order of resources=asynchronous priority-based page loading?
Thanks for the snapshot and sorry for the wall above.

VG.no & Facebook.com uses almost half the time prior to this update. Good work!
Could you explain what changes DSK-357882 do more specific?

1) Check the "open windows instead of tabs" option.
2) Set "Start with Speed Dial" as Startup.
If you make a "ctrl + N", no problem.
But if you open a new window by starting Opera one more time, it's opera:blank that is shown, instead of Speed Dial.
Does anyone is seeing this with another configuration ?

it started around the time, you introduced wahoo with the new ssl features.
to be more precise:
http://comdirect.de works fine
https://comdirect.de takes ages for loading
works fine in opera 12 and worked fine in the stable operas (but i have not tested this for some weeks...)
once the site has loaded, everything else works fine. and my location is germany

Pages with tons of linked JS files seem to be faster loading too, it looks as if the linked files are loaded a little bit more asynchronously in comparison to the previous version.
So far the new behavior doesn't seem to break pages.
Pure HTML pages without distracting images or CSS or JS etc.: No difference, off course

2) Press to the submit button
3) Result: The right-slide-box open roughly, hardly. But opening smooth in Chrome.

With previous Opera 11 builds these sites used to take forever to just render the first page. It seems that the lack of caching in SSL mode and the generally slower SSL connection handshake exacerbated the suboptimal loading order of resources and made it that much more painful. Google Chrome was loading the same sites way faster so I kept wondering "wait, wasn't Opera supposed to be one of the fastest browsers?"
With this build it looks like Opera is finally back in the saddle. Nice work.

Chrome doesn't even show the page content until the CSS has loaded, which is a huge flaw, because it shows a white page for several seconds before loading the content, whereas Opera loads the content first, displays it, and then loads less important things like CSS.
That's a bit like loading a website with 30MB worth of pictures and a little bit of text, and loading the pictures before the text. It's completely insane. So you've gotta waste 30MB of bandwidth to download the images before it will even display the text. Some people don't have 30MB to waste.
That's just an example however. Now imagine loading a hundred or so websites per day (many people load more) and each website insists on loading the CSS before displaying the page. That's a lot of bandwidth wasted for those who don't want to load the CSS or images.
What I'm getting at, is that the old/original loading order of content is what makes Opera stand apart, what makes it superior to any other browser.
So if the loading order is changing in the newest version, I sure hope there will be an option somewhere (even if it's hidden in about:config) to change the loading order.

I'm not entirely sure if this is related to the new changes, but http://dict.leo.org/ took ~15-30 seconds to load the first time, and it loads much faster after that. It got stuck on 2/3 elements (showing a blank page) before finally completely loading the page.
