Please, more complaints!
Thanks for the feedback on Unite. Seems like some of you had connection problems, that you were not able to visit your own services from another browser. We have performed some upgrades and are curious to know if many of you still get those problems and under which conditions?
So, if you use the most recent snapshot build (old builds don't count, upgrade!) and are unable to connect to your own Unite server from another browser, then please tell us about it in this thread. Good if you post the device name of your Unite server too, thanks

Now it's "out in the wild" does Opera want Unite feedback on this build too?

It's not officially announced yet, but you can get it here: ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1000b3/int/Opera_1000_int_b3_Setup.exe
I guess we will see a new Snapshot tomorrow with Unite enabled

@deryo: Thanks! Is the Unite icon in the status bar all Green with no yellow triangle? Also after 5 minutes?

It isn't. It's just wrongly "announcing" it before it is actually released, which is usually the day after Opera uploads it to the server to spread it to all the mirrors.

In any of the ones that share/list files (File Sharing, Media Player) if there is more than about 500 files, it takes forever for it to list them.
The first few releases of Unite, weren't too bad, would take about 8 minutes for it to list about 13,000 files, and be somewhat OK once they were listed. but last few builds (if Unite worked at all) I've waited for over 30 minutes sometimes, and it still hasn't finished listing them (same 13,000 or so) and Opera becomes very slow, sometimes halting to the point where it's essentially impossible to still use it for normal browsing while it lists the files.
I'm not sure if it's the types of files (usually MP3's) and it is trying to read ID3 tags, or if it's just the excessive "prettying" of the list (much like FTP, and opera:* pages have become slower because of the extra formatting), or just how long it takes to pass the info/links to and back from the Opera servers.
Opera.com is generally fairly slow for me (I'm in Canada by the way, which might be why; the distance) so it seems likely it's just the information it has to send back and forth.

Is it possible to share more than one directory or file tree?

Tomorrow, I'll uninstall it and replace it with the next build with Unite.

I still pray for a font-weight 600 fix before 10 is released. :3

I've tried deleting the service and reinstalling, and even changed the device name, all to no avail.
So I'd love to test the Photo Sharing, but it's inaccessible to me. Everything else seems fine, although the admin URLs don't work for any of them.

@lithgow: That's a bug in the Photo Sharing, should be fixed in next snapshot.

Yes, just go to http://unite.opera.com/service/132/ and install a second File Sharing service. Make sure to install it as "a new Service" in the dialog.

@borg, I think he wanted to say if he can share file tree using one service. Personally I don't have a problem with this, I am sharing one folder and I have no problems with listing, or downloading any file from its subdirectories.

I check for updates manually from Opera and it doesn't even work.
GrantTLC13. August 2009, 07:54
Seconded. +1 (whatever)
It seems somewhat eccentric of you that you give us a spiffy new auto-update feature then practically forget about it for all the new snapshots you want people to test for you. Like you're all mad scientists with A.D.D.

Trying to run Unite through proxy. Ooops, the proxy don't seem to allow uPnP
A version without using your dynamic dns, for warned people : using the ip can be great to run Unite in a private network.

I also have never been able to get Unite working - I'm behind a company proxy/firewall.
(On the unite pages it says there should be no problem when behind a firewall etc. but that just doesn't seem to be the case.)

+1 i second that. I don' know, but I think the problem may be in the blocked Proxy Port(default 16680 as configured in the opera:config). Also I've heard sth. about other ports that Opera Unit use. Since company firewalls use whitelisting method (only allow what should be allowed, block the rest) opera unite is blocked. Ive tried the following:
set that proxy port to 80(it is allowed), set port to 80, turn off uPnP, but I've got yellow error triangle almost immediately after I've started unite.
At home, I am running opera unite with the same settings but on proxy port 16680. Maybe if opera unite proxy servers could be configured to listen on port 80...

A solution will be to host content on the opera's servers
There is a solution there to runs locally.. http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/custom-domains-opera-unite/

I was aware of that. I wasn't speaking about the new beta 3, but about the previous build. And apparently now I understand that the unite builds are not part of the official upgrade process. But I'm not even sure (?). Not very clear.
btw : please put these informations in the post. Not everyone read all the bunch of comments of course.
