Swordfish jumps out of the water

June 28, 2011 · by Remigiusz Bondarowicz

Today we released Opera 11.50 aka Swordfish. With its new streamlined body and highly powerful interior it becomes the most dangerous predator on the internet waters.ninja

Opera Swordfish, with its innovative Speed Dial extensions, makes your Speed Dial more alive than ever before. Now you can get all the information you need straight from your Speed Dial, without the need to go to the page. All of this is made possible thanks to the smart Speed Dial extensions, which you can download and install from our addons portal.

Beside that, Opera 11.50 allows you to easily synchronize your passwords between computers.
This way you can access your favorite services, without repeatedly typing in your passwords on different computers.

Opera 11.50 is equipped with our newest rendering engine - Presto 2.9.168 -- featuring up to 20% faster rendering of CSS and SVG, support for HTML5 tag <time>, Session History and Navigation and many other enhancements.

We would like to thank you all for helping us out with the testing and your constructive feedback. smile If you have Opera 11.50 RC5 installed, then you already have the final version.

This is really great, but i was expecting more in 11.50 final. Extension manager is very slow. If i load page in background and than view it, its quickly redrawing most of images, so i have the feeling like its still loading (feels slower). Speed dial has great possibilities and design, but here - resizing doesn't work if columns are set by user(not auto). Icon of recently closed tabs is weird - it's hard to tell if its full or empty (also i loved the last icon design, but thats more like matter of taste). Zooming button is all wrong - it was excellent idea to keep it on just one button, now there is separate slider and button to see other view options(shouldn't "text selection on" be among them ? i'm missing it (winxp 32)). Still... keep up good work. I'm waiting for 11.51 !
  • marbross28. June 2011, 06:46

  • fresco28. June 2011, 06:48

    Congrats!

Too bad the initial menu button that was introduced with the new look didn't make it into the final. IHMO it looked great when using Windows Aero.

Anyone know how to get oGet working on 11.50 ?

There was a trick posted on http://my.opera.com/Lex1/blog/oget-2-4 to get it working for 11.0x->11.1x

But I cannot figure out anymore how to get it working on 11.50

    Anyone.. help please!
  • PraetorianX28. June 2011, 06:49

I COULD HAVE BEEN FIRST... yikes

  • ZyphXypherCode28. June 2011, 06:56

I got a problem when manually zooming in/out of the speed dial using the slider. you won't see it zoom in or out unless you open a new speed dial tab. I updated from the last stable version. Hope this can be fixed sad

"allows you to synchronize your passwords between computers easily."

Are the passwords encrypted on the browser side and THEN send to opera servers? (so opera servers newer sees my password unencrypted) ?
  • gensan28. June 2011, 06:59

working with tor/vidalia, download speed 's still very very slow in comparisson with firefox runING with torbutton

speed dial extensions not DOWNLOADING AT ALL... IS THIS JUST ME?...
  • serious28. June 2011, 07:12

the menu button looks strange (Windows XP, default skin) ... that white 3d-ish effect imo is too strong.

The extensions repository is down by now.
  • JackWagon28. June 2011, 07:14

Congrats, gentleman. Your preface says that this is the same as RC5, but it seems to me that there are subtle changes in the standard skin. If it's not my imagination, it is slightly more appealing to the eye. Yes?

I didn't have any installation/downloading issues with the Speed Dial Extensions I have just tried.

very disappointing guys, especially since my post (which was relevant to the rc build) got nuked.

the mail label unsorting itself on a program (re)start has not been addressed and you still have an issue in m2 with people running dark skins not being able to see any field with text.

those are minor issues that your average user is going to complain about on all ends and should have been fixed before the gold release.
  • Francesco De Domenicofrankdd8928. June 2011, 07:30

    Please re insert window border

This is starting to get f*cking retarded.

Have you people been high off your asses throughout the 11.5 dev cycle, seeing as this version barely has anything BUT bug fixes?

It's time for people to stop spouting nonsense. Time to use your brains. This is just getting stupid. You are making yourself look like fools with comments like that.
  • weetabx28. June 2011, 07:44

    Thank you guys!
  • Andylee Satomichaelpuermayr28. June 2011, 07:47

the new design is great (also typing in the addressbar is feeling a little unused to because of being very far to the right...

And the counter is amazing! I love it!

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish, beloved Opera team!
  • delarge4228. June 2011, 07:48

Favicons in Win7 jumplist are still broken, was fine in 11.11, botched in all development phases of 11.50 and somehow I hoped it would be alright after clean install of FINAL 11.50, boy was I wrong.

Also, when I start Opera from a pinned shortcut, window asking about problem with OTHER pinned shortcuts appears and I have to click NO multiple times before getting Opera to start since those other icons on my taskbar are quite ok. This started bothering me after pinning option was introduced to the installer. It's still there.

It's gone by default. You can re enable it from opera:config (filter by "dropdown")
