April 23, 2010 · by Ruari Ødegaard

Here is a further RC5 for Windows and Mac, plus a few UNIX fixes so that you can see what the team has been working on.

We welcome your thoughts, however please keep comments on-topic. They should be somewhat brief, and yet descriptive enough for other people to be able to reproduce your problem. Post longer comments in the forum, and avoid inline images.

  • Plugin MIME types without file extensions don't work (broken Java)
  • No printing
WARNING: This is a development snapshot: it contains the latest changes, but may also have severe issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Your changelog suggests there is no difference between RC4 and RC5 on Windows.

Perhaps something's missing from the list? :-)
  • djcsurf23. April 2010, 09:49

    @ Rachid,
I was just about to ask same thing, thx anyway

true but other fixes always have the potential to introduce regressions, hence we would appreciate if you tested it nonetheless to ensure nothing has gone backwards.
  • dupel23. April 2010, 09:54

No changes on windows only means that there are no real showstoppers (if you can name them like that right now, as evenes is pretty stable), which means 1052 will go to download servers today =)

    - mousegestures don't work on speeddial
    - mousegestures don't work on .tiffs (no html - just a .tiff image)
    - opera keeps pushing itself in foreground on mouse-over (extremely annoying!)
    - opera won't open links out of 3rd party apps if its not running before you click the link
    - opera does not shut down (window closes but opera keeps running)

all of those bugs have been reported, have been present since early 10.5x days, and I consider them as showstopper - but then again what do I know...

    Mac 10.6.3 and 8339
  • kimyu9223. April 2010, 10:02

I just wanna know that doubled headers of windows live has considered as known issue?

Opera not support 'Geolocation' for HTML5?

They are (or should be) fixed unless you are using an IME. Are you?

File dialogs seems to be working fine now. :-D
But thumbnails generation for speed dial is still broken...
And there are still no margins for text in form widgets and missing gradients (Oxygen native style)...

    10.5x freezes
    DSK-294669 (OSX) & DSK-295433 (PC) - cached links

    1. type "hello" in url field; using default google search engine
    2. cmd-shift-l (OSX) or ctrl-shift-L (win & linux) - open links window
    3. search for "cached" - filter cached links
    4. press <tab> - move to first cached link in main window
    5. up arrow, left arrow, right arrow

    100% CPU
    a) beach ball OSX
    b) freeze - PC
    c) shaded window in Linux

    OK in 10.20

    Please finalise 10.20,
even if you do this by changing "alpha" to "final"
so that it can be stored in the opera mirror archives as a stable release.
    10.20 = XP = leopard
    10.5x = Vista = snow leopard
    10.6 = Windows 7 = Lynx

Since Unix printing is broken, does this mean that printing fixes are on the way across platforms? Printing is failing with incorrect font spacing etc (bug-345159)

nb. In Linux fonts are still looking much less nice than in 10.10.

    HTML5 video is not working

Really? Then why does this play just fine?

And youtube HTML5 works too, same buggy controls though. And I'm 100% sure I'm on 6325.

    XUbuntu 9.04, 32 bit.

http://thunderboltgames.com still causes a massive slowdown as reported here: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=479731 and the user comment section for the previous build.

Stable windows version will go to servers today.
  • JohnnyWestlake23. April 2010, 10:48

Windows: Play.com, type something on the search bar and press enter. It brings you to a login page instead of the search page. Only happens in Opera.
  • Net-123. April 2010, 10:52

@Sasquatch: I can't confirm. The bunny video only displays control bars and a still image. YouTube shows the aforementioned buggy controls, but no video is played.

Please start Opera with the -debugfont switch and submit the results to the bug wizard. Without knowing what is on your system we can't fix it as we can't reproduce.

Minor glitches with controls (drop lists with strange borders, check boxes and radio buttons are cut by 2-3 pixels from right and bottom) at QtCurve theme in Gnome.

Are you using the .deb release, or the .tar.gz one? I'm using the tar.gz file, upgrading the version each time a new build is released, so I keep the same profile.

The Bunny video didn't play at first for me either, but after a refresh it started playing, just like with YouTube. For YT, I always need to refresh the page for the video to start.
I just brought the bunny video back from the trash (closed tabs) and it played the second I clicked on play. Maybe it's some sort of caching problem, that the video only starts to cache/play when it's reloaded.

Confirmed. I've been using Play.com with Opera for years and never had this problem until a few weeks/months ago.

    OSX 10.5.7 and 10.6.3:

    - Sometimes, letters get doubled while entering something into the URL field (I type "l" and get "ll" in the field). Happens neither with all letters nor all the time. On the other hand, I also had it in some other single line input box - strange bug.

    - When saving a web page, it is not possible to paste text from the clipboard into the "save as" name dialog.

    - Feature request: Possibility to change the standard file format for saving web pages would be SO nice, I really have no use for MHT... ;-)
  • Rijk23. April 2010, 11:21

There is actually a very noticable change for Windows: the first screen of the standard installer is prettier
