Take our brand survey

October 4, 2012 · by Andreas Bovens

Here at Opera, we are seeking feedback and gathering opinion on our brand and various products. That's why our marketing department has created a brand survey, which you, as developers, are friendly invited to take — it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to complete, but will help us get a better understanding about the Opera brand.

The survey is completely anonymous, so the results are on an aggregate level only.

Note that the survey will be closed on Wednesday 10 October 2012 — make sure to fill it out before that.

Thanks!

also done, I hope there will be some kind of public evaluation

    Done.

But the survey almost completely ignores the brand product potential of my.opera.com as blogging & photo-sharing platform. I had to tick "Other" and had to type "my.opera.com as blogging & photo-sharing platform" for multiple times. mail.opera.com is not included either.

yeah, there should be also Opera Mail instead of fastmail. or at least both. Dragonfly is also missing.

    Difficult because:

Some of the questions with radio buttons whould have needed checkboxes instead.

I don't know if "aware of" and "using" should have been in the same category too, i.e. while I am aware of e.g Handster and several other items in that list, I don't use them.

    etc.

Nice to see that you are interested in ours opinions.. I am really happy and hope that you trying will be that what push Opera ahead..

this survey is not (it is my opinion..) able to give you some valid informations.. Why do you need to know what I thing that is used by other users.. You should want to know what is wrong with browser (as opvard asked a while ago), what is wrong with you guys (only a few replies on desktopteam..), what is wrong with other things (as only internal bugtracker or that 100% REPRODUCIBLE bugs are not enough to report though desktopteam - some users dont know about report bug wizard and bug may lost in comments.. :/ )

indeed - Dragonfly is missing, my.opera.com is missing.

Opera's biggest brand problem is bugs. I cannot stress this enough.

Technical users know that when youtube crashes, its probably flash plugin - but normal user don't. They only know that Opera crashed out of sudden.

When google devs dont test in Opera and pushe showstoppers in production - user only sees that Opera cannot render maps or gmail.

When 20-year old guru writes bad animation code on top of semi-transparent checkered background made with css gradients - user sees that Opera cannot display animation properly.

p.s.: closed bug tracker also adds to image of Opera being a bug-farm. As even when you report bugs you almost never get reply back, even when the bug is closed. (Compare that to NetBeans - they send you "thanx" email when a major version comes out, which fixed bugs that you have reported (even duplicates) ) Opera only contacted me once, for a HWA bug that involved UI corruption.

 It could be quietly enough if some "script" (or something) itself send us an email with some information(for example):
-bug was not reproduced - get ignored
-bug was added to low priority category
-bug is fixed internally (in what build it is fixed should be a great info but little bit more complicated)
etc.. some more info is wanted

But yes.. Opera is not only bug tracker.. I write all there things with hope that my opinion can something change toward.. I could write a few more ideas how to do more for us and get new volunteers in testing on desktopteam and new users.. but me.. 17 years old teenager what is only fanatic..

With expectation for a new survey in next months where we can write a few words what can you do better,
    your loyal user ahoj1234
