Display
Show images
You can set Opera to download all images, only download some images -- usually the first three images on the page -- or display cached images only, which will increase speed.
You can turn image display on/off while surfing:
- Press 5 to toggle loading of images
- If you have selected "Some", press 0 to load images one by one
Show animations
Animated images are often advertisement banners. Turn animation off to get a calmer browsing experience.
Enable JavaScript
JavaScript may in rare cases be used intrusively and can therefore be turned off. Note, however, that some Web pages may malfunction if JavaScript is disabled.
Pop-up windows
Turning off pop-up windows prevents additional browser windows from popping up on your screen. Note, however, that some sites depend on such windows for displaying additional information.
General
Connection
Options for establishing an Internet connection: Always ask/Warn/Use default.
Selecting "Warn" functions the same way as "Always ask", but highlights your default access point.
Default connection
Select the access point that Opera should normally use to connect to the Internet.
Jump to text
Your browser can skip directly to the first text portion of a Web page when entering. Set it to "Automatic" to do this directly, or leave as "Manual" and jump to the same point by pressing 3.
Home page
If you visit a certain Web page often, you can set it as your start page. You may also enter the location of a local file.
Prefixes and suffixes
Opera can complete addresses by adding prefixes (such as "www.") at the start of an address, and suffixes (such as ".com") at the end.
Note that prefixes and suffixes you add to the list must be separated by a comma.
Advanced
Cache size (KB)
Specify how much space Opera should use to store (cache) local copies of Web pages.
Clear cache on exit
Note that keeping a large cache will speed up surfing.
Accept cookies
Turn cookies off if you are concerned about your privacy, but note that some Web pages may malfunction if you do.
Enable proxy
A proxy server can speed up Internet communication or act as an interpreter between Opera and a special service.
HTTP proxy host/port
Ask your service provider for information about the host name (or IP address) and port number.
Ignore refresh
Some Web pages are set to reload automatically after a given amount of time. This option allows you to ignore such settings.
