I don't like new speed dial . The old one was better! if these speed dial would be standard in baracuda I would remove Opera and would use another browser !

That's not exactly a useful comment. If there are specific problems with it, you should list them in the desktop blog post. Otherwise you are just wasting everyone's time with all too vague comments that can't be used for anything.
  • Alexis24. February 2011, 22:44

    I don't get it. I don't see any differences =S
  • Cristian24. February 2011, 22:50

Fantastic, we want see it soon!
  • Michael24. February 2011, 22:50

The difference must be the liquid lay-out which uses the space more efficiently. Note that there is no configure button anymore, so the size of the items is probably dynamic to the number of webpages.
  • Cristian24. February 2011, 22:53

I want that background please. Where can I find it?

You can add unlimited Speed Dials and Opera will show scroll bar when Speed Dials doesn't fit screen.
  • CogitoStudios24. February 2011, 22:56

    Opera Speed dial rocks!
  • Tyler315324. February 2011, 22:57

It would be nice if the Speed Dial sized the Dials proportionally to the window size. This would be VERY helpful on widescreen displays.
  • Ben Lavelle24. February 2011, 23:01

The difference, as far as I can tell, looks to be that this one you don't need 'configure', and it just adjusts to how many speed dials you want. Great idea imo, having too just too few or just too many speed dials so missing some or having blanks is pretty irksome :worried:
Only thing is, will there always be a whole big one for adding a new speed dial? Could be annoying :left:
  • sleepyhead24. February 2011, 23:01

    Dislike it.
Hope there will be options to change stuff. (number of colums, no empty placeholder, empty speedial tabs in between 2).

I agree with you on that one..

new speed dial looks nice though
although I'd like to set the size of the tiles, big screens can fit 4 or 5 easily..
  • balu-ertl24. February 2011, 23:08

@Tamil: #24. thanx for outlining differences, now I got it.

Don't think it says so, but you can test it in the latest lab version.
  • Zomnut24. February 2011, 23:59

So if the Desktop Opera has, let's say, 4 speed dial entries defined... what will my mobile/mini browsers have given that Opera Link is enabled? Will they too get a similar update, or will they just have empty 'dials?
  • Vian Esterhuizen25. February 2011, 01:39

Really like the idea of only having as many entries as you need
  • Diego Auyon25. February 2011, 02:15

I like the new speed dial, I like the speed dial's background, but I guess, what I like most is that Opera is running in Ubuntu!

Good idea, but this kind of scrolling doesn't work best. I'd rather have horizontal page by page scrolling. This will allow people to have their own speed dial groups.
  • Salvador Alexander Encalada Chérrez25. February 2011, 02:32

i think speed dial should be like the tab stacking style, folders of speed dials clasified by groups!

  • Erik25. February 2011, 03:46

im alwasy tuned lol ! no kidding really, i just hope more organizational tools will be added to the next release. Extending the speed dial just seems the next nice thing but tab stacking needs names

Nice to get to see dev screenshot !

    go Opera !
  • Alexei25. February 2011, 05:53

Ability to set own logos for the SpeedDial items would be much more interesting.

 Scroll your mouse to change the Speed Dial, like changing desktops on Ubuntu .

I'm waiting for some more changes, to see if new Speed Dial will be better than the old one.

    *bolded by me
  • Harish Lakshminarayana25. February 2011, 08:02

am not sure though, but still i think this scroll-ability kinda beats the whole purpose of quick access via speed dials. I need my old speed dial back!

It'd have been interesting to add a bar (a tiny screen area, of-course retaining the old speed dial setup) which would dynamically populate the recently/more popularly used ones.

I have to quote this, the SPEED of the speed dial is gone if i have to scroll down to search xD
I really hope opera will let us choose between the old style and this one, cause this one is really all except "speedy" xD
  • Mikkel Brevik Mehus25. February 2011, 09:20

I love the new speed dial, but I wish I could set a "min and max speed dials" to show pr. line, or a set amount. When I open up bookmarks/feeds etc the amount of speed dials pr. line is reduced by one which makes it hard to find the speed dial-sites as I expect them to be in their usual position.
  • Northgrove25. February 2011, 09:40

Sorry - I dislike this design. This design defeats the quick access to the speed dial boxes. I thought the point was to not have to scroll. Otherwise I can just as well scroll in a bookmarks menu.
  • AmaZinger25. February 2011, 09:47

    Scrollbar??!!1 <_< No way.
Mod edit: Yeah, it would be better if they remove the search field from speed dial.
  • Nico25. February 2011, 10:17

@ John Barnett: That is a known issue with the latest Snapshot, don't worry

Yes I just found that out when I managed to locate the Known Issues list, I deleted my post regarding this.
  • John Barnett25. February 2011, 10:29

I am unable to use Google as my default search engine ! nothing happens when I select the listed item in the drop down list. Bing works fine.

An on small screen displays too! I have an Eee PC 1000 at home with a 1024 x 600 display.

There's an easy way to get the old functionality back - limit the number of Speed Dials you set up! I have 9 on my Opera browsers, which correspond to the nine I can access quickly by pressing Ctrl and the corresponding number. Anything more than that is superfluous/excessive IMHO.

+1. theres too much blank-space in the current speed-dial, owing to the fact that Opera is used on a wide range of screen resolutions! from EeePC to extra-wide LEDs!
  • pepkin8825. February 2011, 14:08

I don't like it so much.
It rearranges my links. I had 5x4 layout with hole in 10th. Now this hole disappeared and further links moved. I remember positions much stronger than thumbnails/captions (I think it is quite natural). Also it is hard to insert a link in the middle.
