I don't like it so much. It rearranges my links. I had 5x4 layout with hole in 10th. Now this hole disappeared and further links moved. I remember positions much stronger than thumbnails/captions (I think it is quite natural). Also it is hard to insert a link into the middle.

Hey, this is so nice thanks.

I don't understand why you guys keep repeating this fallacy. Beyond the fact that the new SD isn't even finished yet, you have as speedy access as ever, except you can now add as many as you want to.
sleepyhead25. February 2011, 16:24
@Chris: not really as speedy as before. Before I had all my Speed Dials on one page, now I have to scroll down. That definitely takes away time that I could as well use for navigating bookmarks.

This is just getting silly. By making such obviously false claims you are just undermining your own argument.

Two possible improvements to the new speeddial implementation:
1. Let the user choose thumbnail size. Currently I use 5x4 configuration on 1280x800 screen and like the smaller thumbnails and having them all visible on one screen. The biggest issue with this new "feature" is that the default thumbnails are too large and only three would fit in a row on 1280x800 screen, forcing the users with smaller screen with larger number of sites to scroll down to get to bottom thumbnails (and the Page Up/Down keys don't work). If the user is allowed to set the thumbnail size (or choose from a list of standard thumbnail sizes), then by choosing a small size, the user can have more thumbnails in a row so that all thumbnails are in one screen, while still able to take advantage of flexibility of the new feature.
2. Loose the big + thumbnail, (which could create an empty row and make the speed dial look ugly,) and instead, offer to register a new site when the page outside the thumbnails is double-clicked.
Keep up the good work, team

Bug: The + dial keeps on adding if you hit it (the last thumbnail) and click ok without adding anything as speeddial. it wont appear in the same tab, you will have to open a new tab to see it.
diz26. February 2011, 14:13
I think this preview shows that you can now choose how many websites you want in speed dial. I bet 9(3x3) will be default setup.

It's not a false claim. Having to scroll is slower than just being able to click. On top of that the scrolling is very slow.
Nahuel Sanchez27. February 2011, 04:11
make something for show "top 10" as speed dial, and if one like have that in the speed deal, clicking in a "pin" you can make permanent in the speed deal. that will be great for new users of opera (no like me, because i use opera from the version 3.6 (May, 1999) and know a lot of configurations and tricks )

If you add a lot of speed dials you are going to be "slower" no matter how it is laid out. But he said he might as well use bookmarks, as if bookmarks would be as fast as a scrolling speed dial, which is clearly a claim which undermines his credibility.

You should that background image use a default background image on speeddial.
Sorry for my bad English.

Maybe it's better to show logo of the site in Speed Dial???
I think it's better if Opera developers add this function

He's right! I want the old good speed dial back. I'm using Opera with many screen resolutions so my thumbs will be in other places on another PCs. And yes, dial groups/pages switched with scroll would be better than using scrollbar.

How can i change the rows and columns in the new speed dial? When i change the speeddial.ini, the changes dont work.

I think that rows and columns will change automatically. Maybe it depends on number of these links (i have no idea how shall we name it:) ) Developers, I am right??
Christian28. February 2011, 14:58
Why do I have 4 columns at 1440*900 while I had 5 Cols before upgrading? PLEASE make this customizable cause scrolling at Speed Dial is crap I think.
