A bit of awesomeness to 11.62

March 1, 2012 · by Alexey

It's Thursday again, and here is one more build on our way to perfection!

This one fixes a bunch of crashes and my personal favorite DSK-340710 (New tab button overlaps the Extender menu button and tabs when Tab Bar is placed right or left) - so now I can move Tab Bar back to the left side and use 100% of screen height on my tiny laptop!

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes, and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Download

Changelog since last 11.62
  • CORE-40077 (getAttribute on namespaced attribute in XHR response fails on metoffice.gov.uk)
  • CORE-44763 (Acid3 crash with Snap Links extension installed)
  • DSK-335820 (Opera replaces existing saved files without warning - crash fix)
  • DSK-340104 (Opera clipboard incompatible with synergy / vnc / rdesktop / VMware / VirtualBOX - was fixed on 12.00 a while ago, now fixed on 11.62)
  • DSK-340710 (New tab button overlaps the Extender menu button and tabs when Tab Bar is placed right or left)
  • DSK-351582 (Crash when writing in address field after bookmark has been deleted)
  • DSK-357896 (No Gtk toolkit support under FreeBSD 9)

No Presto 2.10.269? Shame... The latest 12x build really improves the whole browsing experience for me, thanks largely to faster page loads, better site compatibility and no page flashing during navigation of menus (see here for example)

    Thanks for the build!

"It's Thursday again, and here is one more build on our way to perfection!"

Any chance, that your "way to perfection" incorporates a fix for DSK-356500? Would be great to see it in 11.62. It's about time.

    Hi Alexey!)
And I just found today the most ridiculous bug that I have ever seen: DSK-358566 bigsmile

    Привет Алексей!)
А я как раз сегодня нашел самый нелепый баг из всех, что я видел когда-либо: DSK-358566 bigsmile

Anton: I'm afraid we can't reproduce. Maybe you saved something on it before?

And this one has tough competition for "the most ridiculous bug" award with DSK-299273 (opera fails to start if "Desktop" folder is deleted) - the guy who found it told about it on the interview to Opera Software and was even hired after that! yikes
  • Ruarí ØdegaardruarioThursday, March 1, 2012 4:58:46 PM

@Alexey: We may have made a mistake hiring that guy! p

Since u changed the method of site loading a few builds ago some sites have loaded very slow . This one loads in 2 seconds in ff or chrome and older version of opera and takes 10 seconds for this build :

A few crashes fixed, but not DSK-357654 (HUGE memory leak when autenticating to proxy). Any chances it will get fixed soon..? It makes Opera unusable.

I cant see the html forms here.

could you make bookmarks list slide with mouse roller scroll?
And could you give us possibility to open a bookmark in a new tab (from bookmark list like in ie9)?
    Thanks

I'm having an eye on it but unfortunately it has not yet been fixed internally. :/

Now running this 11.62 as default browser for a couple or so days before switching to the 12 branch again...

    Keep the good work up.coffee

Absolutely not. They are the only way I can make use of my 23" wide-screen monitor. Web pages form a relatively narrow stripe down the middle of the monitor, making the left and right sides complete wastes of space. By keeping my mail and bookmarks on the left and my tabs on the right (with my old-style personal bar even to the right of that) I have maximum top to bottom space use, one-touch access to everything the browser and mail client do, and visual tabs so that I rarely have to read a tab label - simply click on the one I want next without thinking.

Even with this arrangement and M2 view set with mail list on left and mail body on right, even email has more right-to left space than it needs.

If I need to use Opera in snapview beside another app, I just temporarily move tabs to top or bottom (two clicks) and close side panel (one click) and I am ready to go with a vertical arrangement.

Side tabs are a godsend on wide screens.

hiding panel or address bar causes trouble.

Cannot get them back by changing the option. You have to click around in some other field and after some new settings, address bar gets back.

    also on last build

+ no more weird colors when switching to full screen on yt

+ fb seems to be smoother than in last build

+ icons on feed reader are back (after re-subscribtion)

    - embedded videos on fb start replaying after a while (tape.tv player)

    - switching on yt to quality level "original" shows, that video is buffered completely in < 1 sec

    - switching to fullscreen (yt embedded video) on fb sometimes makes flash fullscreen appear behind the Opera window; and after that pausing the video isn't possible anymore <- can click on button, changes symbol, but video doesn't pause

    - still light box for zooming movie covers doesn't work on i.e. http://www.bmv-medien.de/shop/demolition-man-p-10005836.html

    - pressing play button lets appear black box around it; player toolbar on the bottom only appears when hovering mouse arrow on the bottom player border [works when using toolbar after the first time] ((on http://blog.br-online.de/quer/der-wanderpastor-die-rueckkehr-des-joachim-gauck-02032012.html ))

off-topic: Opera Portal: incorrect links to portal from extension; white space under boxes when website gets to "long"

PS: Great build, all my favorite sites work perfect now

Cool. DSK-340710 is the same as DSK-352202, I was waiting for this fix quite a while :-)
  • blaximaFriday, March 2, 2012 10:48:04 AM

I am unable to print multiple pages. Whether I select "All" or enter a number, Opera only prints the first one
  • PraetorianXFriday, March 2, 2012 12:17:53 PM

Opera 11.62 (1324) will not load this page correctly for me:
    http://wisebed.eu/site/testbed/

I think it's due to some javascript error...

Opera 12.00 works fine with it, as well as Chrome and Firefox.

A Linux/FreeBSD bug where having Opera running made it hard to be able to use a shared clipboard between host and guest (VMware/VirtualBox) or local and remote (synergy/vnc/rdesktop).

Opera doesn't remember cookies on youtube... On every launch of Opera I need to login again although I have unchecked "delete cookies" in site preferences...

Open opera with "last session" is broken. It opens only 1st window with tbs, other windows are lost.

It was caused by broken "operaprefs.ini".

    Nope sad
I didn't save or open any file to/from this flash driver. And I also checked the operaprefs.ini (there is not any parameter linked to D:\). And I also tried to repeat this bug again now. Reproduced.
  • Anton DiazAntonDiazFriday, March 2, 2012 5:27:20 PM

Now I tested this bug in Opera Next that mostly have no user data (I use Next very rarely and only for testing some pages). Reproduced too. Did you really eject flash drive using Windows Explorer (not System Tray) and didn't eject it physically?

Also i suspect that it can be related to the old Opera issue with non-latin Windows usernames.

I had the same problem. If I enter all the page numbers, separated by commas, then it will print them.

Like I said "print all" and got only the first page. I then entered "print 1, 2" and it printed both pages. Not optimum, but try it.

That's maybe a good sign, indicating that they're finally reworking the print engine which has been borked (or let's call it 'suboptimal') for ages...
